So I tried something new this morning, there's a gas station on the way to work that sells 100 octane racing fuel. I didn't know how much it was per gallon and it's not cheap, $7.499/gal damn! So I tried it anyway and boy does the Q pick up now. It's like driving my dad's S500. If I changed my timing and fule to air mixture I'm sure I'd get a massive bump in HP but I don't plan on ever filling it up with 100 again. Has anyone else done this?

what a beautiful example of the placebo effect!!

Octane is just the measurement of a fuels resistance to pre-detonation and has no direct effect on power, whatsoever. The reason high performance cars need higher octane, is that if you put low octane fuel in a high compression, high temp engine, you end up predetonating (pinging)....

^^ Actually the first paragraph there says it better than me....

One of my buddies explained that to me before I posted but it still feels like a significant boost in acceleration. Maybe my engine was a little colder this morning and I was getting a slightly higher compression ratio? I dunno but there is a difference.

When scuba diving some of us breathe a gas different than air called Nitrox. Air is 79% Nitrogen, 21% Oxygen and 1% other stuff. Nitrox has a higher oxygen content and because of this less nitrogen builds up in your blood. After doing 4 repetitive dives on Nitrox most divers feel a lot more energized and less fatigued compared to doing the same dives on air. There is no scientific data that supports this theory it just is what it is. This maybe the same kind of thing.

Sorry for the long analogy it's just how I justify spending $7.499/gal this morning.

its cool man, sometimes the scientific data just doesnt agree with real life! Maybe ill try some race gas in the Q.... ive only used race gas in cars without catalytic converters, i wonder if 100 octane can damage any smog components?

ive been wanting to try shell vpower for a while but i always hear that switching from one octane rating to another is bad on your engine, is this true or would it not hurt to fill up on premium from time to time?

ive never seen this 100 gas here in canada, prbably because we arent as gullable as you americans. LOL jk! you know id try it if we had it.

Doesn't race fuel contain a lot of alcohol? I think that's how they achieve the octane rating.
