(CBS) A spectacular crash was caught on video by a police cruiser in Green County, Ohio.

A car police say was going 100 mph is seen hitting the center divider of a highway, then going airborne and slamming into an overpass.

The 19-year old driver survived, but is in critical condition.

I-675 was shut down for hours this morning as the crash site was cleaned up and medical helicopter removed the driver.

Police haven't said whether drugs or alcohol played a role.

Holy smokes. The driver is lucky the car rotated the way it did mid-air. Otherwise I bet they'd be scraping pieces of his body off the supports.

Pretty sure you're looking at a black third-gen Pontiac Trans Am.

That has to be the best crash I have ever seen! I don't wish such a painful event on anyone, but if you've got to do it - THAT is it!

I wouldn't say that, but agreed it was stupid.

I'm gonna pick up one of these Trans Ams - if he can survived that mess then these are amazing cars!

I heard it was a trans am. I'm sure that 8 foot long front end helped keep him alive. The crash looks sick. almost staged. but the kid wanted to go all fast and furious. So thats what happens.

look closer there brochacho... the car lifts and rotates. Looks as tho contact is first made to the bottom/passengers-side of the car.

Too bad he lived. Would have been nice to have one more example of "this is what happens when you drive like a dumbass" for kids.

Interested to find out why the driver was doing this. I can think of no other possibility than he went off his nut and tried suicide by overpass.

Holy crap. It's nothing short of a miracle that the driver is alive.

I'm also curious how that affects the bridge at all....it looks like the car took out a small chunck of the one support beam...

Yeah, it was a bit dark so I missed on the color. That picture makes it even more amazing that the dude isn't dead yet. His seat in the car is completely missing. Plus, the other photo from the mustang driver shows how far the guy flew/slid. With everyone else, I'm just glad he didn't try to take anyone with him.

In watching the video again, did this kid not hit the brakes until the car was airborne? Watch at about 0:30 and it looks like the lights come at about 0:34. Granted, once he hit the grass it didn't matter at all if he was on the brakes or not. He wasn't going to stop.

I'd like to know what caused this. Was he just booking along through traffic and then noticed he was flying up on a cop (who appeared to have been illegally cruising in the left lane)? Then he tried to slow down, wasn't going to make it in time and bailed to the shoulder rather than rear-end the cop?

Or, was it just some sort of a suicide attempt?

If he survives, hopefully he has insurance to pay for it.
