$100 for the first 5v cable that doesn't suck.

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I've had it with this issue.

I'll pay anyone here 100 bucks for an iPhone and iPad 5v cable (ie, that will run and charge an iPhone 3GS or iPad) and hooks into the standard jack on the 08 and 09 ex35 AND actually locks in unlike that scosche POS safety hazard POS. It is insane that Infiniti has not resolved this. Someone stop the insanity. :wtf2:

I agree. Its amazing that Scosche designed an adapter that doesn't lock onto the iPhone. How would they think it would stay attached? Actually its probably my fault for buying this piece of crap. I actually have to drive with the phone in my lap so it doesn't move around too much and pull the wire out! Besides the fact that the factory wire is so short it barely reaches my lap and pulls it out at the slightest bump anyway. Seems to be pretty simple to design this adapter with a locking mechanism. Really!?

iPad is a 10W charger vs. 5W for an iPhone.

It will charge, but take quite a bit longer.

I use a Griffin PowerJolt charger for my iPhone and it does lock into the phone end.

I used the Griffin adapter to hook in my IPOD Touch. One MAJOR problem is that I only get audio out of the left speakers when I am using the adapter. It could be my (POS)iPOD since it did this to me while on a plane with my BOSE headphones.

I plug it in for about 20-30 minutes and get enough charge to last me about a week or two (depending on use), then I simply remove the adapter and hook it into the OEM wire. This is probably not an ideal solution for iPhone users since your battery gets depleted a lot faster due to phone use.

When charging it does not unhook and its pretty stylish when compared to other adapters I have seen. I got mine for 10 bux on Amazon, but it seems like its a lot more money now not sure why.

My offer stands. Yes the griffin charges but not integrated.

It would take Nissan about five minutes to do a cable that replaced the oem with a USB like in the 2010.

Yes there are dedicated chargers out there. The point is charging while you are using the iPod/iPhone, especially since this is what the Scosche adapter advertises to allow you to do. If you make a dedicated adapter, it should fit properly onto the iPhone. Either that or make a new 5W wire already. Want to minimize wires everywhere.

Anyone else notice the icarkits ad beneath this thread? Too bad they have no solution.

Would some combination of these two be of any help?

Or this?

In fact, I think this kind of thing is exactly what you need in combination with the old generation universal ipod cable that had separate usb and firewire connector:

You could probably charge through firewire and plug USB to car to control and listen to ipod.

If not, can you describe situation in more detail, I only have experience with 2010 EX where everything goes through the same usb port in the car - charging and music/control.

@Punjab, the question is whether the griffin converter supports locking. It looks suspiciously like a rebranded version of the scosche. Then again there are folks who think an ex is a rebadged murano.

Even if it doesn't support locking, you raise an interesting idea with the extenders cable. Connect scosche or griffen to oem cable, leave that in the center console and have the extender cable (which does lock) go to the iPhone 3GS. Still the converter is the weak link. But it's hidden away and permanently attached so I can duct tape it.

Duct tape, is there nothing it can't do?

I'll try it and let everyone know.

I have the griffin product and it does not support locking, it is similar to the scosche but is more compact by picture comparison since i have never seen the scosche in person.

I built a custom dock so i do not have any issues of locking..

hope this helps.

IMHO, instead of spending a 100 bucks on an adapter, I'd get an iPod classic & keep it in the car as a "full-time-car-device". I like it because I have your FULL library instead of playlists.
Have to admit it's not the best solution: I want to be able to connect my daughter's iTouch too - she has her own music library.

FWIT, Since I got the EX, my iPod (old version, video) hasn't moved from the car. For $100, you might be able to scavenge an old iPod on eBay and dedicate it to your car.

Just a thought.

Inspired by @maconnely, I've solved it. Duct tape the female end of a 30-pin cable extender (such as the CableJive to DockExtender) to the Scosche passPORT nice and snug. Plug the passPORT into your car and the male end of the cable extender into your phone. Done. Full price $29 (not including duct tape). Safe. Secure. Works.
