well... I did the reformat of my computer and installed the backup I created before.

I play counter-strike and BF2 online and during gameplay it lags pretty bad. I am getting 100 FPS, and my ping is always around 25-35 range. I opened up the Windows task manager under Performace during my game and it shows 100% CPU usage. That is why I am laggin out during the game.

Its not a game lag.. more like a computer lag. I run symantec anti-virus program and did a full computer scan and found nothing at all.

Do you guys have any ideas as to why its using 100% of the CPU to play games?

Computer: AMD sempron 3300+ 2 GHZ1 GB of ram (I believe pc133)256 MB vid card w/ radeon 9550

hmmm...show us your processess. Find out which program is using the most Handles.

Ctrl+alt+del, View, select Columns, check handle count.

You might have something else conflicting...

i had lag before and it ended up being my finger print reader.. using 16,000 handles, and it was only supposed to be using 400.

RTVSCAN!!!!!!!!!!!!

Close that and it should stop the lag. That is your Antivirus running a background scan.

------------but its possible its something else. There are a couple others like google toolbar, desktop weather.

Is steam the console your playing on? Make the handles ascending. Just click the handles tab (where it says handles) to make the most usage at the top.

From what I see on your taskbar and what's listed in the task manager window, it looks like you might have some unnecessary system tray icons running. Kill 'em all off except the essential ones (you decide what's "essential"). Kill steam unless you're running a steam game.

Get rid of the language bar, too. Yet another useless windows feature that MS seems to think we want enabled by default (kind of like how Sticky Keys is the least used feature of all time and yet is the easiest to unintentionally enable by default). (Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Languages tab > Text services and input languages > Details > Preferences > Language Bar and uncheck the "Show Language Bar" box.You can also kill the associated "ctfmon.exe" process.

Also, Shut down your live weather feed while in a game.

Generally, I go through and kill anything unnecessary. Go through the list and see what's using resources and isn't needed. If you're not sure what a particular process does, paste the exact name into google and find out. Some of them aren't "necessary" but are needed for apps to work correctly, so you can close them if you know you won't need the corresponding program this session.A lot of little stuff can add up to a decent chunk of freed-up system resources.

well today shortly after you were downloading/installing that software my computer completely crashed. It tried to reboot itself but only got into the windows loading screen then it would reboot again. It was in a loop and would not load windows at all.

When it would get to the windows loading screen it would make a click sound.. then reboot itself again. After about 20 times of it rebooting itself I turned the computer off and gave it a few minutes to cool off.

Once I booted it up.... it was doing the same exact thing. I tried to boot in safe mode... but it wouldnt even give me that options. No options actually. Only thing it was asking was where to boot from.

I tried booting from the hard drive and that didn't work. tried the cd-rom.. and that didnt work. nothing would work at all... i spend about 2 hours watching it do that damn loop. I removed the battery on the MB just to see if that would do anything... nope still the same.

My last resrot.. was to do a reinstall... and now its back up and running.. minus the stuff i have on my harddrive... so if you have an idea of wtf happened i would really like to know.

If you want to try the remote thing again... i guess we could try.

Please let me know asap... since this is my only computer.

well ****.. its still doing the same damn thing. I ran a video card test to make sure its working properly... and I benchmarked at 278 FPS so the card is good.

I did another virus/adware scan.. and nothing came up. Do you have any more ideas.

You don't have near enough RAM to play BF2.

Anything less than 2 Gigs makes that game impossible to play without lag.

He has plenty to play counter strike. He is not playing source so he is fine.

I dont know yet, we never got the chance to finish the job.

We i wanted to make sure the antivirus override was gone. Also wanted to run test on your memory and other benchmarks to make sure your system is running right.

If you want to connect again let me know.

Did it work right at all?

Your commit charge is huge! Make a list of things running, anything by "owner" can pretty much be terminated. Some other things can be terminated too. Keep track of everything you shut down until your computer crashes, reboot, kill that stuff again minus the program that caused you to crash.

Even with Norton and some other internet securities running, my commit charge (with XP SP2) is 231MB when playing games. That's also with those quick keys working so I can adjust my volume during game play. I could kill/uninstall even more things, but that's good enough for me.

It ran bf2 fine. I had the setting on medium quality but it did not lag very bad during gameplay. I don't really play bf2 anymore but i'm sure it would not run currently with the problem on my computer.

Ken, we can setup the remote assistance again.. just let me know when you have some time.

first step, GET RID OF THE ANTI-VIRUS, second step download process explorer http://www.microsoft.com/techn....mspx, run your game alt-tab out and post a screenshot of process explorer here
