My Pathy's getting close to being 10 years from manufacture date (10/00). The owner's manual says to get the airbag system inspected at this time. Is there any merit to this? Has anybody else gotten this inspection done, and if so, how much did it cost?

Got airbags and seatbelts inspected at my local Nissan dealer today. Took about an hour (but I also had them unclog the windshield wiper jets) and it costed $72 before tax. My vehicle checked out OK for airbags and seatbelts (invoice says "a customer requests inspect seat belts and airbags noad operates as designed to manufacturer standards" and "checked seat eblt latches an ran air bag computer for proper operation allis good", cost $45 and $27 respectively). My wiper jets seemed to work better as I drove off the lot, then the driver side became intermittent again. The service tech did suggest that I purchase a new nozzle, however, and that would cost $75 for part and labor. I might swing by the local junkyard to see if I could get it for cheaper and do the labor myself.

Good thread! You can replace the nozzles yourself, it takes a whole 30 seconds. I did mine a while back and it was cake.

Excellent, thanks for that bit of info. I'll edit the thread's title to be a bit more descriptive. I'll scour a local junkyard soon. Will any 96-04 nozzle work?

Towncivilian, use a decent windshield washer or cleaner and no tap water. If you use water make it distilled or R.O. you need the purity. Run a mix of WW fluid and cleaner through from the pump to all windows served by that washer container, check for residue in the container, washing with alcohol or methyl hydrate will remove excess water and crap in the lines. Use a straight pin on the nozzles to clear them and to align them, then remove the pin and wash them out via the pump with a good fluid and maintain a good level in the tank. Crap on windshield clean them with Oven cleaner, rinse with garden hose then use the wipers and the WW fluid spray.

Interesting. I found a TSB (NTB01-05), REVISED MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES that states:

Waste of $72 for this inspection? Quite possibly, since I had and still have no issues with the airbag. Nonetheless, the peace of mind is welcome knowing that my airbag system is still functioning fine after 10 years according to the electronic inspection.

And regarding my driver's side nozzle, it turns out it was a kinked hose leading to the driver's side nozzle. Wonder how both Nissan and myself missed that. I did eventually buy a new nozzle ($36 waste :(), which didn't help for obvious reasons. The rear air relief valve was causing the hose to get kinked, so I duct taped the hose out of the way of it so it wouldn't get kinked again.
