I bought a new 2010 versa 2 months ago and i have less than 2000 miles and the "Service Engine Soon" light came on but still ran fine. I took the car to a dealership (a different dealer than i bought it from) to see what the problem was. The light had been on for a week and the light was on when I dropped it off. However, when I picked my car back up they said that the light was not on and that no code was saved.

I don't know a lot about cars and this is my first car, but i feel like they are pulling my leg. I find it hard to believe that the light just turned off and nothing is wrong. What do you guys think?

I think the gas cap could turn this light on.
Is it screwed in tightly?

If it keeps coming on, just keep bringing it to the dealer until they fix the issue. It is a brand new car with a warranty, so you might as well take advantage of that.

Did they tell you what they did to make the light go off?

It wasn't the gas cap. Thats the first thing I checked and the light stayed on for a week.

The dealership told me that when they started the car, before they did anything, the light was not even on.

I know you said it was not the gas cap but you also said the light was off so no test results were read.

When I first purchased mine I thought I screwed the gas cap on tightly too. But, my light came on around 500 then again at 1500. Everytime after that I held the plastic gas cap retainer so it would not turn when I turned the cap and make it click 4 or 5 times.

Never ever came back on and I am at 67k. So, since it is off just keep this in mind.

Also even after making sure my cap was tight the light remained on for 4-7 days each time.

Well I hope it was just the gas cap. But you're saying that I shouldn't be too worried about it?

Back when I first bought mine, within the first 5,000 miles the gas cap was "faulty" and they replaced it.

never had this issue again and past 60k now
