Weight has nothing to do with engine HP! It's a good question...is there a difference in the VQ35HR in the 350Z compared to the G35??

There are a lot of factors here, nothing has to do with the engine, it's all about the drive train. If I'm correct, the Z is a tad shorter than the G so there are smaller inefficiencies in the drive train such as weight in the drive shaft due to it being possibly shorter. If you want to relate this to engine efficiency, just think about lighter cams, lighter pulleys, etc. Not sure what the gearing is on the Z either and I don't know if that makes a difference.

Those are just guesses without researching. Rear wheel horsepower is all about how efficiently the transmission can get power to the axle. So if these claims are correct, the Z is more efficient in getting the power to the wheels.

That sounds logical...wow, didn't think that our drivetrains were that different.

YEA thats a good possibility!!! yea but its an intake!!! the engine is the same !!! same intake and same engine!!! if it had different manifold or other parts, then i would understand!!! but its produces at crank 306hp just like the G.. im confused maybe it was the weather condition that made this difference..who cares its only 3HP more than the G

Again it has nothing to do with the engine. It's all percentages of efficiencies. The more HP you add to the engine, the more the Z will increase relative to the G according to these tests. It could also be due to the fact that the G was an automatic.

I am pretty sure it is a same hp at the flywheel. It is just different at the wheels. As smockers explained it. It is all about the drive train. Just think about it why there is a significant different between the auto and the manual on the coupes?! It is the same engine. The key is the drive train.

if the Z was a manual and the G35 an auto then there is the difference right there. The auto sucks up more HP then the manual.

I just want to make sure you're getting this because I think you're still thinking about horsepower at the flywheel, which is the HP stated in ads. Lets say the G 5AT and G 6MT have the exact same engine (both are producing 293 HP and 258 lb-ft of torque). The 5AT being an automatic will put down less HP at the wheels than the 6MT just because its an automatic and its less efficient than a manual. This means you'd have to add more horsepower to the 5AT (say an extra 20 HP, just throwing that number out there who knows if its right) and leave the 6MT alone to get it to equal the HP the 6MT puts down at the wheels.
