$10 fan amp!!!

So my fan amp goes on the Q the other day. Since the damn things are $200 at the dealer I try the local auto wrecker. Lady at the counter tells me if I find one it's mine for 10 bucks. As fait would have it out of all the pathys and Q's I find one that still has a fan amp. Now the only difference is it doesn't look like the one in my Q. My Q has solid fins where as this one has rods (they are the size of welding rod). The part number ends in 2 not a 3. Anyone ever seen these? I installed it and everything works as it should.

Likely an earlier version of the part. Now, did they change to reduce the cost,or improve the reliability?
