Hey guys, so today I went to the shell station to fill up and on all the pumps it says now contains up to 10% ethanol. So i'm sitting there for a moment thinking ummm should i try somewhere else or what the heck is going on? So are gas companies starting to water down their gas with a little ethanol? I was just gonna get higher grade gas but they all had the ethanol. Has anyone else ran into this and thought what the heck?

O and i havent gotten gas in about 2 weeks so this just happened recently. Couple of questions though, will the ethanol cause any problems? and will my mpg go down or anything, just curious?

If you had put that in your car the Altima would have blown up.

Close call bro.

Can't say but up here it's been used for a long time now.

Only one Gas Station up here doesn't use it. Shell's V-Power.

Some claim to have less on their Premium/91.

10% ethanol has been used in California for years. Which is why cali gas prices are about 40 cents higher per gallon, because ethanol is more expensive, but a cleaner burning fuel. Its fine to use in the car.

I've been pumping at a station with up 10% ethanol since the car was new, and I haven't had any problems with it. 90% is oil, so your good, lol.

Ethanol is why a slice of pizza costs $3 here in NY.ETHANOL FTL! it may run nice in an engine, but if people cant afford food because of it.. i call it a massive FAIL.. the markets are showing this as well.

Ethanol is a really bad idea and is putting all sorts of pressure on the global markets.

I work for a gas station right now and simply put, gas with 10 percent ethanol is cheaper then 100 percent gas. Its not used because its cleaner burning. No one can tell me that Ethanol isnt somewhat damaging to something your engine and this is why: The gas station I worked at switched over to 10 percent ethanol about 3 months ago. We currently have to get the filters inside the pumps replaced every 2 weeks on the button, when while we were using normal gas it was once ever few months. Now I know those filters are processing alot more gas then our cars do, but down the line I wont be surprised to see if some early part failures(fuel filters, injectors) stuff like that will be linked to using gas with ethanol. BTW the owners manual doesn't recommend using gas with ethanol or methanol in it. However, it seems that for the furseeable future, some of us wont have a choice to not use it anyway. The only gas stations that I know here dont have it are Exxon and Shell.

And on a personal note, I can not STRESS how HUGE of a problem I have with ethanol being used in gas and being "the answer" to the energy problem.

Guess what, the high price of food has little to do with the price of oil but instead the increased use of corn and a few other crops to produce ethanol. That means less feed for animals, so the meats and poultry go up. Its also been linked to the global food shortage. Simple supply and demand laws that are raising the prices.

Obama was getting my vote until I heard that he fully supports ethanol

Ethanol absolutely does burn cleaner than gas. Gasoline enriched with ethanol contains more oxygen — so it burns cleaner, leaving fewer deposits, keeping fuel injectors and intake valves cleaner, and burning cooler. Given the principles of engines, a cooler burning engine will have better longevity. E85 ethanol vehicles are the cleanest fuel burning engines in the world, next to alcohol injected race cars.

note adidas said cleanest FUEL burning engine...Watch "who killed the electric car" (a great movie) to see whats the cleanest burning vehicle.

Dont look for it on the road though bc GM scrapped them all in order to keep making oil burning, short lived cars.

Ethanol is the worst idea since MCHammer pants went out of style.

Performance drop?! You might see a performance increase actually! the Ethanol mix blend adds an oxygenator(Ethanol) it actually helps combustion at high outside temperatures since it allows for cooler A/F mixtures. It also prolongs the life if the gas in your tank. I've definitely noticed a difference because I used to use shell and switched to sunoco and I'm lasting longer between refills.

I didn't say that Ethanol supplemented gas does not burn cleaner, I said that gas stations are not using that as the reason to sell it. Its cheaper then normal gas.
