Can I use an open atmosphere bov(not recirculated) with a 10:1 fmu set-up or will my motor die out?

I ran that same setup and did have some stalling issues. For daily driven I would recommend you recirculate your BOV to eliminate backfiring and stalling issues.

An open BOV will cause hassle with any fuel system using a MAF. Doesn't matter if it's larger injectors or FMU. An open BOV allows metered air to escape causing the car to run momentarily rich when you back off the throttle and the BOV opens. The usual end result is the engine stalls.

What, I'm using a 10:1 FMU and open BOV with no problem.U just have to move your mafs by the TB and place the bov before that. That way your not venting meter'd air. And make sure the FMU's source is after the TB.

My BOV is on the hot side in the wheel well and it's F***'n loud. People go runing for cover

^^^ Do you have any pics of your set up? I'm very interested in seeing what you've done and what parts you're using!

His setup is called a blow through. Its one of two ways to install your MAF. Obviously his is after the turbo, hence the blow through, most people put it anywhere on the coldpipe that runs between the IC and the throttle body. You'll just need to extend the wiring harness for the MAF to reach the other side of the car.

Pull through is what MAF controlled cars use from the factory, I can't think of any that use a blow through. Both methods have worked well and both have had issues. But I've seen it done right and it worked very well, even with a open BOV.

Pull through, or Draw through

Blow through

Just a couple of quick pics, I know its a V8, but same concept.

What issues occur with the blow through set up?

a quick search reveals that some people have had problems with their MAF wearing out in the blow through setup. the problem was fixed when converted back to pull through

I think some have had problems with their MAF wearing out in the blow through setup because of high air temps(small innercooler), and not placing the air temp sensor by the mafs. The engine will use the same amount of air with a blow through setup as a pull through. And if u think about it there all mafs are pull through when not in boost. (-hg engine side and +pressure on the out side)= pull through

MAF wires should see temps well over the charge air temp. this should not cause any wear on the wire. The only possible issue would be that crankcase air that is routed to the intake without a catch can can introduce oil onto the hotwire. The hotwire is supposed to burn off any contaminants by getting very hot for a few seconds when you turn off the motor, but I don't know how effective that might be.
