hey guys i have interesting situation and am curious what you guys would do.

If you had $10,000 to build a 180SX/RedTop motor car what would you do? The $10k has to pay for the car also and the motor. Dont count labor..just parts..

so what would you/could you buy after the purchase of the car and the motor?

Check out http://www.srswap.com/they got good prices on fmic's and other stuff for the sr. Or check out afterdark tuning's site to see what prices, Dauntt is getting.

figure $3000 for an s13, $2200 to $2500 for the engine. and then you still got a little to play with, if you are doing the work.

ok i can find 240's around me for around $2000-$2500, so lets assume the car is $2500 and i spend $2500 on the motor..thats $5k left over for mods..what would you do to get the most bang for your buck for $5k? This includes suspension parts and electronics also..

I'm sure it'll be more than $2500, maybe like $3000 with shipping and all that for the engine. If you have that much money to play with I would do a mild rebuild, just like the bearings and seals in the block and maybe the head gasket and valve seals. That way you can check out how the cylinders are and you know the engine is solid. It's alot easier to do those things before you go throwing the engine in. Then I'd do the normal intake, dp, cat, and exhaust and see how much you have from there. Don't forget the cooling system, radiator and/or fans, and gauges. Then maybe a LSD and suspension work.

one major part he forgot to mention was a FMIC, I'd invest in a nice one as you have the cash. also on the intake don't get the cheap K&n filter go for a decent one. not saying spend 200 on it just don't get the greasy K&N filter. what he listed with a FMIC should run you 7300, plus throw in a CLutch and flywheel for 700 that lease 2,000$ to play with. Check out Phase2 for good prices and enjukuracing.com. Good luck. if you have any left over you could always mail it to me.

i'd invest 5k in some stock....a good broker can double that by christmas time, and next summer you can do the swap, and still have 10k left in your pocket. Just my 2cents

I h8 ur DSM sorry but stocks suck right now and a good broker will get you 12% not 100% annually not in 6 months but hey a stupid borker can try for the 100% and get you -100% **** just buy Enron and your on your way. I have been investing for 10 years and I have learned all my lessons the hard way. during the bubble I earned 300% and afterwards I lost 20%. but all in all I love owning stocks the thing most people don't get is its a long term investment. if you in it to get rich quick you might as well be at a casino cause all you will be doing is gambleing. Boy who would have guessed I'd have that much to say. LAter

in this current economy I have my doubts about alot of stocks. I do wish I had more disposable income cause I have missed a few good oportunities. for example stewart title stock I missed its recent upward movement due to lack of funds to buy it. and the xerox increase would have been nice to get in on.

Stick with the essentials. Get intake, downpipe, testpipe (or high-flow cat) exhaust, blow off valve, front mount intercooler, electric fans, boost gauge, and clutch. I'd say that would build you a pretty solid foundation for and SR powered 240.

Oh, and I forgot to mention fuel pump...gonna need that for sure.

For round two of mods, I'd say go with LSD, Boost controller, and SAFC.

yeah i think i will be doing the mandatory 'safe' mods like the better radiator/fan, downpipe (needed for swap), oil pan, fuel pump, boost gauge and controller, FMIC, Fuel computer, and clutch...then probably BOV and exhaust..then the next round i can get nasty with a new turbo, injectors, intake manifold, cams, ECU, etc...

How about for education, bachelor, master or phd degree? Then you have more money for any kind of upgrade you want. Lol. Well, I think ppl here already covered what you need. Are you gonna do the swap yourself?

Even better than the HKS, go with the Blitz SUS filter. Pure stainless steel mesh--No oils. Nuff said.

Hmm.... for the extra 5G's: radiator, fans, nice fmic, nice filters, bearings/seals and other crap like that, oil pan, fuel pump, bov, essential gauges, dp, exhaust, clutch, flywheel. I'd try to make the motor as reliable before you go and blow some **** up. Then... do what ya want: HP? Handling? Braking? Looks?
