Hello again,

I'm looking into either replacing my stock 2-peice driveshaft with an aluminum 1-peice from shaftmasters or a steel 1-peice from AMZ, just not sure yet. If anyone has any suggestions as to what my best options are please feel free to let me know so. I've been doing some research, but there are so many mixed opinions about driveshaft material and so on...My main question is that when intalling a new driveshaft, will I have to get the rear wheels off the ground in order to replace the driveshaft or can I just have the cars wheels on a flat surface while replacing because I might have the rear end lifted on some ramps.

I would go with an aluminum due to it being lighter in weight. When your installing it, I would reccomend that you have the rear wheels raised as it will be easier to line up the driveshaft. You need to slide the splined end in first then clock it to the rear diff yoke.

Z1 motorsport has them for a pretty good price.

I never did a driveshaft on a 300zx but on the s14 , we just put the whole car on jack stands and it was fine... i dont know about doing it by the tires.

Well, I did some research and Shaftmasters has the 1-peice aluminum for the n/a for $346, which includes free shipping and AMZ performance sells the steel driveshaft for about $267 including shipping. I'm geared towards those and they all use the spicer USA made u-joints and they all claim to have well balanced driveshafts. Z1 IMO is very pricey and I'm trying to save a few $$$ here and there because I'm trying to add more upgrades and cover other maintenance costs that I might need in the near future. I'm kind of geared towards the aluminum shaft though, just need a few opinions to sway my thought.

Well, do you mind extra in cabin vibration from a cheaper made driveshaft? I have no experience with AMZ. I have bought a shaftmasters aluminum for an S13 SR swap and used a Z1 platinum for my old NA Z32. Both were expensive yes, but I never felt any extra vibrations. There has to be some reason for why it's cheaper right?

I'm probably going to get a shaftmasters aluminum driveshaft. Also, is there a need to install a safety loop if all I'm doing is using my car for daily driving. Did you install a safety loop for your cars driveshaft?

Aluminum is a good choice. i got steel and in retrospect i wish i had gotten aluminum. jack stands are fine for this install, the driveshaft just slides back when un-bolted and comes right out of the bottom. pretty straightforeward installation. idk about the safety loop though. personal perference? i installed it.

Is there anything on the driveshaft that needs lubing or do I just install it the way it is straight out of the package?

Raplaced my OEM driveshaft to the Shaftmasters aluminum ds, had to clock the driveshaft 2 or 3 times because of high speed vibrations, but finally got it right. I think aluminum was a good choice!
