Should just take the old one out and bolt the new one in. That simple, just check to make sure the bolts are tight and that your u-joints are good.

NA or TT? Only difference will be where the drive shaft mounts to the rear differential. The TT has six 8 mm allen head bolts, the NA has four 14mm bolts/nuts. In addition, you will need a 17mm socket to remove the bracket for the center support bearing on the stock driveshaft.

You will need to remove the exhaust, at least from the cat back. It can be done by simply disconnecting the rear hangers and letting the exhaust drop a little but it's much easier to just remove the exhaust. Then you will need to remove the heat shield that sits between the exhaust and drive shaft, it's held in place with four 10 mm nuts and two 10 mm bolts.

Once unbolted, slide the front of the shaft out of the trans and install the one piece. If you do not do it quickly a light amount of fluid may leak out of the tailstock of the trans. Once the one piece is in place, torque the drive shaft bolts to 29-33 ft-lbs for the NA drive shaft and 40-47 ft-lbs for the TT.

Put the heat shield and exhaust back in place and you are finished.

This is also a prime time to replace your shifter bushings on a manual trans if they have not been replaced recently.

Hope this helps,Tim

The torque is higher on the TT than the NA, 29-33 ft-lbs for the NA drive shaft and 40-47 ft-lbs for the TT

A light lube on the input shaft is a good idea, most of the shafts come witha light lube on the input shaft to prevent rust during shipping.

No need for any preload. No real down side to the one piece other than they are more prone to chassis vibration and balance issues.

There really aren't any downsides to it at all. Like Tim said you can get some chassis vibration but if its a quality drivershaft and balanced properly you'll be good to go.

What type of 1 piece are you looking at? Steel, aluminum, carbon fiber, etc Honestly, for the price and weight savings, I think aluminum is the way to go.

well i'm trying out mitch's amz performance 1 piece. since i'm doing a swap next summer i figuered i'd try it out. so if i don't like it i'll try someone elses. that said. aluminum is more prone to twisting than steel. i disagree with it. you only save 4 lbs from steel to aliminum. ofcourse i don't have any first hand experience. just engineering knowledge from the millitary from working on aircraft...amz 1 piece only wieghs 17 lbs. which. is ofcourse his claim...i also stay away from z1. they are very over priced on everything. and i question some of their products....everyone i've spoken to always had some kinda negative on them.so that leaves amz and his outsourcing to pst i think their called. boarder racing and mwsmotorsports has some. so i think this is going to be a trial and error kinda thing. i have a good relationship with mitch at amz. he's never let me down..

I'll take the lighter one, lots of people have run aluminum with zero problems for years so to each their own I guess. And as for companies that make them, there's a lot more than what you listed

I just replaced two piece shaft with aluminum one piece. Vastly better! Worth the additional cost. I didn't install it, but watched. (Am getting too old for those kind of tasks!) With lift and right tools, appeared not too knuckle breaking. Shaft from Driveshaft Specialists, Inc, San Antonio, TX 1 866 455-6622. Good people.

Doesn't the one piece driveshaft vibrate or something at like city roads? Over at twinturbo.net some guy said that its alot better to have a 2-piece if you're goign to be driving aorund in the city, but if you want it for track then 1-piece is good.
