Hitman,

After your advise I decided to change the diff fluid myself. When I got under the Q, I realized I don't have the right tool. I believe I need an allen wrench.....do you know what size is needed?

I have NO idea, my friend. Dennis may chime in here, or check your manual...

Perhaps Joe would know? Call him up.

Have fun under there! :D

Should be just a 1/2" square drive. Use a breaker bar or ratchet.

Let a professional do it with the correct tools if you crack or round out the in/out plugs you get to buy a new one. Sometimes real work to get them out....big long tools on a lift........for $50 not worth the effort to do it yourself! Then the refilling without a pump.

When people don't know the tool size nor take the time to measure and decide - best let a garage do it. Not something done with jack stands.

Mine came out with a 1/2 drive (I recall now, duh) and a very short ratchet (7"?). Easy DIY job, unless it's really cheap at the shop.

Dennis is right - use jackstands, the jack, a couple cinderblocks and 2 more jackstands (for protection). :D

I actually don't use anything to prop up my car......there is a big drainage ditch on my mothers property. So I just park the Q over the ditch put down an old blanket to lie down on, and go to work. This is how I change my oil. I like it because I don't have to worry about the car dropping on me, and I save time not jacking the car up.

I'm thinking my drain/fill bolts will come off relatively easy, as I had this service done about 1 year ago. Was your hard to get off? Did you need a breaker bar? Thanks again Hitman!

<something I know about>

My things came off easy...... I had a 3ft bar hooked on until it came loose and then I just loosened it the rest of the way.....

What do you guys think...... Good to drive the car first and the drain the stuff (i did it cold).......

My uncle made a home made ramp by stacking a set of 2x6s...... So you just drive up and set the P-brake.......

I let mine drip for like 30mins......

Invest in a gear lube pump..... There isnt a way to get a bottle up to the diff.......

Its just a 1/2 in drive..... Worked perfect for me......

I just use the crush-the-bottle method for filling it. A little messy, but I can do it with three bottles of Mobil 1. I usually have most of the third left over for the next time. Wes, where'd you get your pump, and how much?

BayareaQ - just make sure to use a torque wrench to tighten them back down... you don't want to over do it for next time!

Yes....... Torquey torquey those plugs...... Something like 40 ft/lbs if i recall correctly......

Heath....... I did the car at a marina, and they just had it lying around there...... They sell the pumps there too, and their like $7 if I remember correctly......... Their made for oil bottles, so it will only work for half of a bottle....... I bought 2 quarts of valvoline synpower GL5, and used 1.5 qts........

If someone would be interested, Ill do some research on how to get them.......
