I went to the track last night, a crappy 1.8th mi. I ran a 10.2 with Intake, Header, Exhaust on a stock motor with 173,000 mi. on it. I ran 10.6 bone stock. But I feel like the 10.2 is a crap time and my car can do better. Here is the thing... before I did my bolt ons my car would pull harder after hitting like 5k... someone once described it as nissans v-tec, well after my bolt-ons this went away and no longer does it.... anyone have any suggestions.

Nissans vtech eh? Someone needs to think before they speak. Your friend must have no clue what V tech is. The other guys are right, its just the power band. You smoothed it out. You want a notchy crappy powerband back? Go back to stock, but the closest thing nissan has to "vtech" is the variable valve timing, but it doesnt "kick in" on nissans, its on the whole time giving you instant performance gains and better gas mileage.

My 91 is kind of "ratty" compared to other 240SXs I've driven and it's mostly stock. It makes good power at 2K and almost the exact same at 3K but that 4K the power doubles within a few hundred RPM and doesn't stop pulling harder until maybe 6500. After 7000 it's still about full strength but it's climbed it's peak already.

What are you doing reving to 7k? Are you trying to blow your motor? The KA powerband DEFINATLY is no where near 7k. It sounds to me like you dont know what a powerband is. When it "kicks in" around 4k....thats just still the same ol motor running, thats just where the power starts......

Yes, a dyno chart makes it easier to understand bro. If racing or driving hard you wanna keep the rpm's in the "powerband" when accerating hard. Notice more towards about 5500 on our 240's shows peak power. You should be shifting AROUND there, but also remember when you shift the rpm's will drop of course, but you want to keep them in the power band, so timing your shifts is everything. Get this down right and watch your 1/8th mile and 1/4 mile drop even a little bit more.

I guess my 91 runs better than most. I've proved to myself at the local dragstrip that it's faster to shift at 7K than 6K more than once before. Makes about 3/10s of a second through a quarter if you want an example from me.

And to take any guessing out of it... I took 3rd all the way to finish the quarter mile on these 6K and 7K runs to prove that it isn't the shift to 4th that is throwing away the 3/10ths of a second.

I'd still have to say that my 91' makes the largest G-forces right around 6500 RPM by the old butt dyno so shifting at or before is just wasteful performance wise.

I've driven plenty of cars that aren't wise to redline when racing. You have to have a good sense of feeling out a cars powerband or you may shift quite a ways off. Dyno charts are idal though.
