Hey, I am trying to fix my buddies 01' Sentra thats got a fried ECU. It is the 1.8 manual. But I havent been able to find an ECU for it anywhere. I was wondering if anyone knows where I could find one, pref. used? And I also wanted to know if any other ecu from another year/model would work?

Thanks

Nissan uses tons of slight variations on the same ECU in the same car. For instance, there are 62 ECUs for just an '01 Sentra 2.0.

That said, if you look at the numbers on the back and start calling junkyards, they might be able to find a match.

This car may be subject to an ECU recall. There was an issue with the foam surrounding the ECU. Call a dealer and run the VIN, you may get a new one for free.

also, if the car has the immobilizer on it...you have to find another 1.8 with it as well, and you'll have to buy their immobilizer unit and then have it programmed to the other car, so i hope he doesn't have it, lol.

What exatly is an immobilizer? And If it does how would I know, and who would be the best to bring it to for programming?

Damn why does nissan have to make it so complicated!? My 240 just was a matter of matching part #'s and plugging it in. And even my s14 sr ecu was easier to find than this sucker!

yeah nissan got really retarded with the b15 ecu's. the immobilizer is the chip in the key which won't allow it to start without it there. if he has it, it's a big blue chip on the key you can see

Have a dealer code your keys when you get the new ECU if it has the immobilizer. You'll see a blue rectangle near where the metal meets the plastic on the key.

It might have a recall on it. Mine was just replaced 5,000 miles ago. Also my brother had it go bad on his '01 SE. You'd have to go to the dealer though and find out.

Yeah, I mentioned the recall in my first response. I didn't know it extended to '06s.

Whoa that was wierd... it completely just reposted my previous message but i didnt do anything.

Anyway, Thanks everybody ill look into the recall. I dont think there is a chip on his key so that would be good.

But if its is not covered under the recall where is a good place to find a good used ECU?

Again, start by calling junkyards. Many of them are part of national networks and can call their affiliates 'til they find what you need. After that, you're probably stuck buying new parts. If that happens, try our sponsors - http://www.nicoclub.com/addirectory.shtml
