I've noticed that I often go to the street races, or ask someone on the street what they're running and they throw up some fast time that they 'claim' they ran at the track. Then I race them and either I take them or they pull about a car on me. Has anyone had any experience with 1/4mi liars?

Examples:

I race this mid 90s Mustang GT from a 60mph roll on, he pulls about 1.5 cars by 115mph. We line up at a light and I ask him what he's running, he claims 14.7 at LACR (2700ft). I say okay and ask him if he wants to run (i'm running high 15s), I be both get what seemed to be good runs and he pulls by 1/2 a car. Humm...

I race this newer Alero, the dude says he's got intake, exhaust, and aggressive cams, that's cool. I race him, we're dead even. Then after we run I ask what he's running at the track and he says he ran 15.2 last week. Humm.. I had just ran 16.0s that week at the track. I think someone was telling a .8 lie.

I meet up with this CRX who asks me if I know where people are racing tonight, I say ya follow me and ask him what his car runs, he says 13.8s. I say cool not bad. We get to the street races and he gets pulled on like **** by a civic that I know runs high 14s.

My friend and I see this dude looking at Mustang stuff at school. We ask him if he's got a stang, he says ya an 88. We ask if it's fast, he says he's putting 300hp to the wheels. We ask what he ran, he says 15.0 when it was stock (at LACR 2,700ft, stock 88 stang has 225hp). We ask if he wants to race and tell him to bring his car next week. My friend with a 1992 TA, which runs 15.4 at LACR, races him. He takes my friend by about a car. Wait a minute, didn’t he say 300 to the wheel? My friend's probably can't even break 200rwhp and it's a heavy *** convertible. What's up with the lies?!

What's that **** about? Why do people have to lie about their times? I feel like I’ve gotta say I'm running 14s just to compete with the lies. It's all gonna be verified when you race and you're gonna look like an idiot like many people have.

I dunno.. It was 17mph headwinds. Plus I was scared that i'd grind 4th or put it into 2nd on accident (i've done it before) so I redlined the hell out of 3rd rather than shift. I'm sure I could muster up maybe a 15.7 not much better than that though. I was spinning bad too.

David.

Honestly.. I thought my front mount would give it away all the time... but whenever I cruise up around a bunch of ricers, no one really says anything about it. The only people that know what I have are the people I told when I was in the process of swapping. I like it that way, less recognition, but anyone who knows anything knows whats up.

And look at any SOHC Honda turbo kit. They have front mounts and probably don't break into 14's, so it's believable.

Also, keeping a handful of timeslips where you missed second or spun the tires all through first in your car is a good idea. I have all my 14 second timeslips on my wall.

LOL - Buud has learned the art of the artificial handicap...

240SXer, that crap has been going on since the dawn of racing... My buddies and I used more $$$ on entry fees and race fuel calling out chumps from our school who claimed quick times. We'd hear some dork claiming 14.7's out of his brand new whatever (this was in 87-90), invite him to the track, offer to pay his entry fees, and school him in front of all his buds.

I drove a big '68 Buick (15.1 @ 98) which made it even more embarassing for them.

Know what else is gay? Seeing guys who go to the track and leave the white shoe polish times on their window for all the world to see. Even worse are the guys who CHANGE the numbers to something unrealistic.... Like the 99 Si across the street who CLAIMS 14's but has every excuse in the world not to race me in my Q45... Punk-a$$.

someone can say they ran 15.1 at the track last week and loose to your 16.5 car in a street race and still not be lying. since you are street racing there is no regulation and you don't know what either car actually ran. they may have let up on the street race cuz it is illegal and they didn't want to mess their car up for some illegal zhit. they could have adjusted their car before the race at the track to make a better run that was toned back after for street. There are no liars at the track.

I do it the other way around. I tell people my car is stock. Makes them look really slow win or lose.

"Gawd...a stock 240 runs about a 16...that would make yours about 18?" If I win...

"Geez, Is that all your V-8 mustang can do against a stock 4 cylinder?" If I lose...

I guess if my car was stock though, it wouldn't be as fun to lie.
