I finally got to the strip today (rockingham) for the first time. here's what happened,

my car's a 91 hb with 85mm exhaust and a short shifter, open diff, and economy tires.

1st run:R/T .47560' 2.375330' 6.9191/8 10.578MPH 67.311000' 13.6861/4 16.294MPH 85.47

2nd run:R/T .65360' 2.424330' 6.8541/8 10.490MPH 67.771000' 13.5851/4 16.276MPH 82.74

3rd run:R/T .34260' 2.405330' 6.7941/8 10.398MPH 68.111000' 13.4751/4 16.081MPH 85.71

over all I was fairly happy considering this was the first time i'd ever driven in any organized event, it was pretty consistant so i guess that's good. The 60' times could use some work, and i got a little jittery on the line (R/T). also my shift points were pretty inconsistant, mainly because ive never dyno'd my car so i don't know the optimum points.ANY feed back, tips, suggestions, advice, slaps on the back, etc. would all be greatly appreciated.

well all i can tell you is that i've heard when racing a 240 it's best to short shift to use as much available torque as possible. This will let you accelerate faster...so i'd say shift at 5500 RPM and launch where you feel comfortable...remember you want about 1-2 rotations before you hook up for the least amount of bog at the line

I'm the only person I know with a stock 240 in my area who was actually able to pull a 15.9 like the car is supposed to be able to do. I had a LSD though and that helps A LOT. I would recommend that as a first mod no matter what engine mods you have.

not true. You will acccelerate a ton faster in first and second than you would in third. Therefore you will want to use all of your RPM availabe.

For example your 0-60 might be 8 secs but your 60-120 might be 12.5. Its not like your engine is producing less power going a faster speed its just your gearing is producing less torque so you can't accel as fast.

uhh no you should not run though all your rpms (up to 6900 rpm redline), even if it is 1st or 2nd gear. If you have an all motor (w/o serious serious work)KA you can hear the tone in the exhaust dip down drastically after 6000 rpms hence you are no longer making good power and just wasting gas. A nice shift point is about 5600-5800 rpms. This is good for a few reasons: KA motors make max hp at 5600 rpms and max tourge at 4400 rpm, so when you right before you shift you will hit your peak hp and fall right into your peak tourqe. Also if your runnin on a stock clutch this will avoid as much slippage possible which can come from shift at 6500-6900 rpm.

You are right. I'll have to do some math and search for a dynoe or two next time before I make comments like that.

I don't know a civic that'll run 15.9 stock. I saw lines of N/A SI's with bolt ons that were pulling high 16s even 17s. Stock 240s outrun them even when driven by fools. GSRs are a little quicker but not into DOHC 240SX territory sorry, Not stock, not gonna happen.

Shifting at 5500 RPM is foolish esspecially in first gear in a 91. The 91 240 has a more aggressive cam profile and doesn't begin to taper off until around 6500 RPM. I can feel the rush fall flat a mear instance before redline and that it all. I'd say 6500RPM in all gears and if you want redline first. 91 240SX that is

I know in my car with your basic bolt-ons the car doesn't get fun until 3500ish and after abour 5200ish it gets to the redline quick... I have found taching it out to redline provides better times..... but I will test my theory this friday at the track.

not to sink to his level of stupidity or anything, but how could anyone possibly kill on a 240 when they drive a GS?!

For everyone who says to shift at 6k when the power falls off: HAVE YOU GONE TO THE TRACK AND TRIED IT!? I have. You get better times when shifting at redline. The horsepower between 6k and 7k is higher than the horsepower you get shifting into the next gear. It's all about the area under the hp curve. And the area is greatest when you shift at redline. I run 15.4's with intake, exhuast, clutch, a bunch of stuff removed, 3 cylinders on minimum compression, and 1 at 20 psi below minimun. Shift at redline.
