I was wanting some opinions on subs.I planning on running a ppi 5 channel amp. It's power for sub is 400x1 or 200x2.The question is would I get more bass from 1 12" sub with 400w or from 2 10" subs with 200w per sub.So basically would it be better to have a higher end 12 or two mid range 10's? thanks

uh do you care about quality or spl? and what is your budget... also depends on what frequencies you want to hear... or feel...

you'd most likely hit louder with two 10's since you'd have more cone area with the same amount of power, but i'd recommend gettin a single higher end 12"... 12"s hit deeper than 10's, a little smoother sounding i find, and you'll be also paying for better sound quality

I'm not looking for an spl monster, and I don't plan on competing in IASCA.I just want something that sounds tight and isn't sloppy.I just want something that will hit in the neighborhood of 140db.I think I'll probably go with the jl 12w6v2 or a id max 12.I think the id maxx would like more power than the 400w the amp is giving.

sorry to rain on your parade but you're not gonna hit 140db, with any of those subs off of 400W... maybe 136, but you'd need at least 800W to come close to 140db... 400W will still hit pretty good though

like i said depends on what you want to spend and what quality you want. how much will you spend on sub(s)? oh and what is the power rating at specific ohms? is it 400 at 2 ohms? or 4 ohms or what? or is it like jl amps.... same power no matter what resistance?

Well I'm looking to spend between $300-500 for the sub department. My PPI is rated at 400x1 @4ohm.My buddy works at the local audio store, the best subs they carry are jl audio. He said he could get me a 12w6v2 for somewhere around $250.So basically I could send $250 for the one 12",or he could get me two 10w6v2's for $400.I just don't know if the two 10's would sound good with just 200w each. They both have the same exact power handling capacity. So the single 12 would probably do better with the given wattage. And the box size would be the same size for two 10's or one 12

so you think there's no way I could possible hit 140 with just 400w? Dude I've seen 2 old kicker freeair 10's powered w/ a kicker zr240 amp hit over 140db.The amp is rated at 240x1,but the birth sheet said something more like 340x1. It was in a s13,ported box tuned to 40hz. So anything is possible. The car accoustics, and the box play a big part of how many db's you can hit

well basically you will hit louder with the 10's and it'll sound and feel more punchy cause you have 2... but they wont dip as low as the 12. decide if you care about trunk space. i think you'll be fine either way. listen to both i mean they have them at the store right? test them out, see what you like.

personally i am going with a one 12" setup. i think the 12's hit deeper, save weight, and save some trunk space. i will be doing a custom enclosure in the spare tire hole this week so if you want some ideas i can help you out.

Hey that would be great.I want to do a custom box in the trunk well out of fiberglass and wood.If you could post some pics of the install that would really help me out. Also what kind of sub are you planning on running?

I'll test them both out.I'm probably gonna do the single 12w6v2 though. One of my previous systems included 3 jl10w3's running off a mtx 2300(600x1) amp.I personally think my single 15w3 was louder than the triple 10's with less power. One thing though, the 15 is in a talon hatchback and the 3 10's were in a s14 trunk.I want to keep alittle trunk space for my nitro buggy when I take it somewhere.I realy don't want to have to leave it in the back seat. Thanks for all your replies guys

I don't race at the track.I need lots of practice on a track before I'd try racing,I just take it in the open and play.I have a kyosho kanai II buggy. It is the best nitro rc car I've had. I've had a tmaxx, nitro rs4 evo, ofna ultra gtp,and an xtm mammoth. The ofna gtp had a 2.5hp w/ a 2speed transmission,It would do almost 80mph.But out of al of them I love the kyosho the most. Do you have stadium trucks or monster trucks?

Personally I would stick with the two 10's, or suck it up and go with 2x12s. Single boxes just never cut it in terms of low-end support for my listening tastes(which don't include rattling near-by windows). :D Because of the logarithmic nature of sound, you are always at a numerical advantage when adding more subs. In other words, two 10" sealed subs will usually sound *more than twice* as loud as a single 10" sealed. Your comparison of the 15w3 and 3x10's may very well be true to your ear. However there are too many variables to really conclude which speaker setup was 'moving more air', if-you-will.

Hope this helps.-Jamie

i guess they are stadium turcks... i have a team associated rc10t and a rc10t2. my brother has a team associated b2 buggy. their used to be a family owned hobby shop with onroad and offroad tracks here in austin. i would go race every sunday. it was soo fun, but the family decided to stop the business cause they were going to do different things. there is still 2 other offroad tracks around here somewhere so i need to go check em out. i drove by a race the other day to see some people set up in a parking lot racing around. anywa i need to work on em and get em running again cause i spent a lot of money on those things. it's an expensive hobby.
