Just curious to know if any modifications need to be made in running 1/0 gauge power wire. As in will it fit under the kick panel or will it need to be ran under the carpet?

Thanks!

in any case, you should run it under the carpet. 0guage is thick, and your door sills wont clip properly if you run it under there.

From my own experience, 1/0 ga wire WILL fit under the OEM clips that run along the driver's side paneling.

This is with 1/0 ga wrapped in techflex, so plain 1/0 ga should be just fine. Note that these clips take a gentle touch to come up, otherwise you can just slide the wire through without lifting them up.

Thank you for the detailed post!!!! May I ask what brand wire you are running?

Another question, how did you pull out the door sills? I was feeling around for the clips but couldn't find them

The wire I ran is Stinger Pro Series 1/0ga with a Red Techflex wrap. To get from the front of the battery to the middle of the spare tire well, it will take about 21-22 feet using this path.

To get this ran, most of the items will pull out by hand, no need for tools. Be gentle, yet apply some smooth force and the clips will come out.

1. For the kick panel, just slide your hand under it like so, and pull, you will feel the clips 'click' out. http://www.blindbug.com/wp-con...7.JPG

2. For the side panels, going back (the rear is the same), again slide your fingers under the panel and pull up/towards the inside of the car. Once you feel the clip come up, slide your hand down 6 or so inches and repeat until all the clips are out. http://www.blindbug.com/wp-con...8.JPG

3. For the middle section, you can slide your hands in and pull towards the inside of the car. I couldn't quite get the whole thing off (although I really didn't start pulling on the upper portion). I pulled the (2) or (3) clips that hold the bottom portion of the center pillar panel down and that gave me enough room to work. Don't worry that the rubber molding will 'come up', when you go and clip the panel back in, you can use a small flathead screwdriver to pull the rubber back out (simple, not complicated).http://www.blindbug.com/wp-con...9.JPG http://www.blindbug.com/wp-con...3.JPG

4. If you want to pull up the little clips that are under the panel (they open like a clamshell), you can see in this picture that there is a little tab to the right of the clip. I was able to put my flathead screwdriver into that tab, and pivot off of the top of the clip itself. It took a bit of fiddling, but I found that they actually came off easier when I applied a lighter touch. You don't really have to 'open' them however, since I easily had enough room to push/pull the 1/0 ga wire through the clip with ease. http://www.blindbug.com/wp-con...7.JPG

AS FOR RUNNING IT THROUGH THE FIREWALL

There are a lot of locations you can run this wire through. I looked for about an hour and a half before deciding to run it where I did. After a lot of hacking at the floor, I got access to a half-tennis ball sized grommet. It is to the left of the parking brake, and wires go through them. After a lot of fooling with screwdrivers and such, I found I could cut a small 'cross' into the lower portion of the grommet and stick my wire through without fear of cutting any existing wiring. Push a foot or two of wire into the engine bay and you can then pull it from behind the air box. The Grommet: http://www.blindbug.com/wp-con...5.JPG Where it comes out: http://www.blindbug.com/wp-con...7.JPG

To run it into the trunk, the rear seat comes out with ease... if you lift up on the seat pan, you will find a little pull, just give it a tug and the seat pan will come up. http://www.blindbug.com/wp-con...4.JPG

Putting all of this stuff back on, is as easy as it came off... just push the tab into it's appropriate hole.

Hope this is helpful

Wow. If only I knew all this when I installed my sub! I spent hours looking for info on this site on where to run my power wire, how to hide it etc. I myself ended up drilling a hole through the firewall on the passenger side behind the glove box and just running it through there. Since I only used 4ga wire I tucked it under the sills without removing them. It all looked fine at the time and I didn't think anything of it. But I know whenever I upgrade to 1ga (if I ever get a bigger amp) I'll definitely be using this info. Thanks a lot!

I think a mod should have this turned into a sticky. The first definitive post about how and where to run amp wires!

I'm happy to be of assistance. I'm actually writing up a thorough, detailed post though, so I wouldn't sticky this one just yet. If anybody has any questions, let me know.

I have one.. could you do a write up w/ pics on accessing the head unit.I got my stuff installed at a place yet I want to tweak and add a few things myself so I spend extra $$$ on them upgrading.I didn't watch how he got the head unit off but when i saw it i was shocked at all the crap layout out. From what I think you need to do is:1. Snap off the Air duct on top of radio. He said that snaps right off.2. Unscrew the screws holding in radio and air controls.3. Something on the bottom but i'm not sure...

If you do a HU removal plz take some pics. It would be very helpful.TIA!

Check the write-ups section. Doc has an excellent one on installing a new HU. All the steps listed with pics on how to remove the stereo.

I saw that and it's very good. Of course now I can remove my HU < 1 minute now with 2 screwdrivers with all the problems I've been having.I used to be like, oh my car , now it's like pop that sheet off and lets go...
