I am the second owner of a '09 Rogue S FWD, and at 49500 miles. Over the past few days it has been kind of lurching upon acceleration and breaking, I hoped it was just bad gas and bought a fuel additive to help the problem. After a few days with it continuing, it made a metal scraping sound when I shut off the car. I decided to take it for a quick drive to see if it made any other new sounds and on my way home it stopped moving. The engine was still on and idling, but pressing the accelerator did nothing and it would not engage in reverse or drive. I ended up pushing it 2 blocks back home, which the good part of that was since the engine was still running the power steering was a big help....Any one have any suggestions or opinions?

I would bet a lot of money that you have a bad CVT transmission, which means the dealer will replace the entire unit under warranty. Another possibility is the TCM transmission control module, either way I'm betting your warranty will need to kick in and cover some major work.

If this is the case, my advice is to just relax, enjoy the fact that you've got warranty, and have it towed to Nissan for them to worry about. You should have Roadside assistance coverage to get it towed in free of charge too, just look for the 1-800 number in your owners manual package.

Good luck and please let us know how this turns out.

No, it looks like I misunderstood. In your original description it sounded like the engine was running fine, but pressing the accelerator in drive or reverse would do nothing. I didn't realize that with the car in park or neutral the accelerator would not work, i.e. not increase rpms.

I can't guess what the problem is specifically, all I can say is that if you are faced with a complete failure of the powertrain that it needs to take a trip to the dealer. The car is under full warranty coverage so my advice is to just let the dealer worry about it and if it's going to be a few days try to get them to throw in a loaner or rental car. Good luck and please let us know what the diagnosis and eventual fix is.

It's hard to say what could be causing it. The ECM (engine computer) and TSM (transmission computer) talk to each other so a problem with one can affect the other.

This issue is well beyond my abilities. Get the dealer to tow the car in and start some diagnostics.

I ran a trouble code diagnostic on it and got trouble code P1777 which left me as confused as before....I do plan on having it towed in to the dealer tomorrow, but the service guy I talked to says it sounds like the valve body assembly that isn't covered under the drive train warranty

P1777 is a step motor error code.

The CVT is covered by Nissan's 10 years/120,000 mile extended CVT warranty. The power train warranty is 5yr/60,000 miles. I see no reason why this repair should not be covered under warranty... the valve body is part of the CVT.

From the 2009 Warranty Booklet:
TRANSMISSION AND TRANSAXLE
Case and all internal parts, torque converter and converter housing, automatic transmission control module, transfer case and all internal parts, seals and gaskets, clutch cover and housing, and electronic transmission controls.
Read: 'All internal parts', the valve body is inside the transmission... it's an internal part.

There was also a tech bulletin released for a P1777 error code:
NTB09148 - SB Altima/Rogue/Sentra; MIL "ON" w/DTC P0840/P0845/P0744/P1777

* IF YOU CONFIRM Any of the following DTCs are stored in the TCM: - P0840 - P0845 - P0744 - P1777 ACTIONS Replace the Control Valve Assembly with the part listed in the Parts Information section of this bulletin. Reference SECTION TM, CONTROL VALVE Removal and Inspection in the appropriate ESM for directions. Erase the EEP ROM calibration data in the TCM and allow it to recalibrate. Reference NTB08-064; CVT AND 5 SPEED A/T INITIALIZATION INFORMATION for directions.
