I have a 2009 maxima 3.5 sv with sport package. On wet pavement the drive wheel spins when a goodly amount of power is applied.

Shouldn't the traction control mitigate the "free spinning tire" so as to maximize traction? The Traction control lite comes on, but the tire will spin till i let off on the gas pedal.

you can thank that to the torque from the VQ

not sure what VQ is, but the question is "is this normal, or is my maxima in need of repair"?

Welcome to NICO!

VQ is in reference to your motor. Now, I know there's a little difference in technology from my 94 Q45 to your 09 Max, but mine does the same thing. So, I would say yes, it's normal in a WOT (Wide open throttle) situation. Now, in a safety situation, it may respond differently?

VQ is the name of the motor in the Maxima.

TCS is designed to reduce power until it senses the tire has good traction again. It might allow for some spinning, but it should clamp down on it pretty quickly.

I doubt anything is wrong with your traction control. It probably allows the wheel to spin because it detects the other wheels are not moving, and thus no need to interfere. Try giving it less gas off the line.
