When I turn my car on from a cold start I hear a sound from the engine bay( I will try to record it next time) i think it might be the belt, I have 82XXX miles and I have kept up with all other maintenance. Also should I be looking at getting my spark plugs change while they are in there or not? What else should I get done? Thanks in advance

I have a 2009 M35X with 130K miles and have clicking sound after starting on a very cold day. This sound goes away after a few minutes. I also think it might be the belt and will replace soon. Since it has warmed-up, I think that sound is gone.

I replaced both belts about 3 wks ago because there was a chirping noise that was driving me crazy. I sprayed some WD40 on the back side of the big belt to see if it was the belt and it stopped for a bit. Figured I'd change em both while i was up in there anyway. Car has 78K miles on the clock.
Sooo nice to have access to a lift!!

So I went to my local mech shop that I've work with before, and they told me that from what I explained it sounds light moistur build up. And they recommended a "belt spray" which I bought at autozone. While I was at the mech shop I decided to have my spark plugs changed out and the only cost $125 and a 2hr wait. Well this morning I sprayed the belt after turning the car on and I sprayed it again at about noonish, on my drive home I could've sworn the sound got worst on my 20 miles drive to my home and it doesn't go away like before the spray, now it there all the time. Need advice what could it be and I'm still thinking just replacing the belt and hope the sound goes away after that? Thanks

Not a clicking a whining sound. It's pretty damn annoying, this weekend I will go back to the mech and have them take a second look now that the sound is present all the times and not just after a cold start.

Buy 2 new belts, you probably need to anyway IMO. After I sprayed mine the noise came back and was constant. I only sprayed to diagnose, not to fix.
If the noise continues after then it may be a pulley or other issue.

Your right I'm gonna have my mech do the job bc I've never changed a belt and I don't wanna mess it up

lol - yeah two belts - and what mechanic would recommend belt dressing - awful stuff, saturates and gums up the belt...

if it is belt squeal - loud annoying, etc, worse under acceleration, worse turning - new belts, tighten to spec... ALSO to triple check, tighten your tensioner, if the sound gets worse, one of your pulleys is acting up. Better? yah need a new belt...

the moisture he's talking about is between the ribs of the ribbed pulleys, causing uneven contact, and belt slip, causing whine (that when warmed up, goes away) much worse when a belt is old, stretched, dry etc.

Regardless of mileage, you also must consider the age of the belts. If you live in the north with extreme temp changes from seasonal weather, that can also cause deterioration of the belts. That said, my 09 has about 30,000 miles, but I suspected due to being 5 years old, the belts / hoses might need replacement. The service tech at my dealer told me they were all perfectly fine and to replace them would be a waste of money. According to him, since we have nearly the same temps all year long, belts and hoses can last longer than expected.
However, on my 07 after about 80,000 miles, the service tech reported noticeable wear and recommended replacing both belts.
I got them on Ebay from Circle Infiniti. They sell OEM parts for a MUCH lower price than my local dealer charges. You can also purchase another brand for even less money, but I try to keep everything OEM on my cars.
