Hi All,

I read a post from about a year ago regarding a stalling problem with an 09 M35. I haven't seen anything since then, so maybe this is a very isolated problem.

I've had my '09 for about a year, purchased used with 2500 miles. I now have about 13K.

No problems with the car, but 3 times in the last year, most recently yesterday morning, I've had it stall/die without warning. All 3 have been at low speeds, slowing down in traffic for a light or turn. It's so rare that it's obviously hard to debug, but it has happened and it's obviously unnerving.

I do note, and highlighted to the service staff at infiniti, that it does have an odd 'kick' or 'catch' when slowing down. I was told that this was due to the transmission and engine trying to match up, and is unique to the 6-speed unit. At the time, no software udpate was noted.

So, are these two things related? Is the transmission downshift 'kick', along wiht the A/C and other thing just overloading the engine and making it stall? Anyone else ever have this problem?

Thanks!

Steve in Austin

I don't know much about this situation, but the 'kick down' is what Infiniti calls 'rev matching' and THAT is normal. The rest of the issue? Definitely not.

Your dealer has this on paper? Make sure there are records of you telling them in case something happens so they can't try to deny something or screw you.

Is that a typo? No M has a 6-speed. Older ones have 5 speeds, newer ones have a 7 speed.

Maybe the transmission is somehow not shifting down at times (in these rare cases) and the engine RPMs then get too low and the car stalls?

Some of the symptoms you mentioned go in hand with a car having a bad O2 sensor, especially the stalling when driving at low speeds, etc. but your car has such a low mileage that it's probably unprecedented for it to fail so prematurely. I'd do what Ilyakol say, make sure this is properly documented on Infiniti paperworks i.e. "Customer states car stalls at low speeds." and if they cant find the cause for Infiniti to say "We cant find the cause." So they dont try to screw you in the future should anything more serious happen. I, in your shoes, would take the car to Infiniti and leave it there until they can find and fix the issue for good, good luck.

Correct.

Being your car is so new and you have warranty, I'd drop it off at the dealer and tell them to find the issue. Period.

You should get a loaner for the duration of the time. If they aren't willing to work with you, perhaps call Infiniti Corporate America and start talking hire up the food chain.

There is bazillion computers on these cars, they should be able to see some sort of anamoly with their diag tools. Especially with something like which is probably a sensor or something cutting out thus causing the car to stall (crank position sensor? cam position sensor?).

I've had this happen once in 21K miles on my 2009 M35. Coming out of Costco last summer and coasting to the stop sign at the street the car stalled. Restarted fine and it hasn't done it since. There is a thread about a sudden stalls somewhere here and I believe it said there was a TSB that did a reflash of the firmware that is suppose to fix it. I had mine at the dealer around christmas for another issue but totally forgot about it. Next time I'm at the dealer I'm going to tell them about it and see if they will perform the TSB.

There is a low-speed stall problem that is fixed by a firmware update. I just had it done on mine a couple weeks ago. Your dealer should be able to take care of it lickity-split.

I am having the same problem on my 2009 FX35 with 50K miles. I first had it with 35K last year and it didn't happen again until this month.

I had a similar issues with my 2009 M35x. Would go into a store, come out and then restart car and the car would stall. It would restart fine. Dealer reset the idle on the car during my last visit and hasn't happened since.
