Post

Hey, guys.

I am new to this Forum since I recently purchased my G35 (2009).

I had a good deal buying my car, yet my car had every option except for the GPS nevigation system. (It really sucks. I really wanted GPS Nevigation.)

I was thinking that I may be able to get aftermarket GPS Nevigation system installed on my OEM Audio system somehow.

Well... I am having hard time finding any place where they specialize converting OEM audio sytem to GPS Nevigation system.

Now, I wonder if I can even try to look for it or not since I could not really find any information about this matter.

I would appreciate it so much if you guys can give me any tips what I should do.

Thank you!

Welcome to NICO!!

Hang tight, I'll see if someone can help you out.

But, if it's an 09...you don't have a G35... you have a G37.

You can make that two members now that have this question.

We also have a Mini CooperS and the the dealership wanted $800-$900 to install the Sirius radio option. I found the Mini box from another dealer on eBay for pennies on the dollar. The car was already wired from the factory so it was a plug and play with system. I am hopeful the '08 G35 is also this way.

Is installing the factory nav system even an option?

Thanks and any intel would be great.

Typically the cars have not been pre-wired for the Navi system so to install Nav in a car you pay cost of parts and a ton of labor for install. I have seen quote of $2000-3000. This is for the older G's though. With the newer G's it is possible since you have a display screen anyway that wiring is there.

Some of the techs on this forum might know the answer to this more directly since I have an '03.

I have the stock Nav, but for people like me who don't have it the best option for them was to use a dash conversion and install a double din head unit that had DVD and NAV features.

I hate to link to another forum, but its my only choice to help you guys out. This is a post from a guy who bought a 2007 G35 Sedan, without navigation. It's a pretty cool setup, and relatively inexpensive.

Congrats on the new rides and Welcome to Nico guys!

Unfortunetly adding NAV in the cars without it on the newer models would be extraordinarily expensive. The wiring and radio must be replaced with the HDD system. This would cost several thousand dollars in parts alone.

The nav package costs a few grand on the sticker for several reasons.

Thank you for the reply! That is what I was afraid of and there was one side of me that was a little hopeful.

There I go again...... getting my hopes up.

Did anyone read my post? There is a cheaper alternative, using an aftermarket unit, which utilizes the OE screen...

You could consider something like products available from places like:

Stealthcomputer.com

Using a mobile pc in a car you could add a product similar to what I recommend - Topo by Delorme. Typically you can update the product on a very frequent basis for nothing and new versions, about once a year will cost far less than simply updating the maps through Zenrin, which I find ridiculous in how often an update is available as well as expensive.

Once you do this then you can also consider other things running off of such a pc such as dvd, custom security, etc. not easily available using any other means.
