hey guys

trying to figure out whats the problem. My 09 altima coupe has funny tranmission noises when I startup the car in the morning or after quite a few hours off. its sort of a grnding/chatter noise 2 times (for maybe 3 seconds) and 1 longer one (5 seconds) and it goes away. Happens without fail on startup after the night/ or when off for hours.

Any help would be great

Aaron

you sure its tranny noise?
are you sure its not the typical low oil level timing chain chatter that almost all nissan engines experience?

CHECK YOUR OIL LEVELS! thats really important in all nissan engines, as consumption is a common thing. i dont wanna say "problem" but its certainly a "thing" in nissan cars. plus with higher miles, its going to eat more due to piston ring wear. so you have to also keep that in mind, and also think about maybe you need your timing chain adjusters replaced. they are regulated by oil pressure - but the guides are plastic.

does it start like this?

the only thing in your tranny that moves/works when your in P is the fluid pump. i doubt thats the problem.

Could be a loose heat shield, once warm they tend to stop chattering.

If it's the heat shield there isn't a whole lot you can do about it. Pretty common in our vehicles. Mine does it as well.

bang it down with a mallet. that will stop the ringing.
