08 Sentra 2.0S w/CVT squeaking noise from transmission?

HI everyone,

I purchased an 08 sentra in August and it has been great, it has a little over 6000 miles on it now but I had a question about the CVT. This is my first car having a CVT and maybe I am not used to it. I wondered if anyone else notices that when going down hills the car seems to slow it's self down? I also am thinking of taking the car into the dealer regarding a squeaking noise coming from what sounds like the transmission when manuevering the vehicle slowly or putting into gear. Has anyone else had any experiences like this or am I just paranoid because its my first new car? Also the 2.0 engine is really loud when starting in the morning if cold, and it the engine sounds like it needs a valve adjustment? I assume this is normal, the engine just has a very different sound than I am used to.

The CVT has a locking torque converter which acts like the clutch in a manual car. It locks above a certain road speed. So the feeling of it slowing when you go down a hill is basically the CVT doing engine braking. Traditional automatics don't do this because they either don't have a locking converter or they end up going up to a higher gear when doing down a hill, so that's why it feel strange. The logic in the CVT keeps it at the same gear or actual drops the ratio in order to use the engine to keep the car from going too far. It's a good feature really on most hills I find I don't have to use the brakes to keep the car from going to fast. And it save gas when going down hill.

As for your sounds not sure I don't have any sounds from my cvt.

And I don't have a 2.0 engine so I don't know how different it is when you first start it but the 2.5 also sounds loud but mainly cause at start up it idle at higher speed then normal for a minute or so.

yes the engine is pretty loud when you first start it up on mine to, thats just normal tho, on all the reviews for this car alot of people complain about how loud the engine is, imo i like being able to hear the engine, as for the squeaking noise id bring it to the dealer that sounds like an issue

There's a motor mount issue on 2.0s, but it's more a clunk or vibration than a squeak. Still, the safe idea is to have it looked at.
