Im new to your site and I just love it. I just bought my first Infiniti and I love it. But I'm wanting to operate my Nav and have my wife watch movies on my front screen while the kids watch the same movie in back. I've seen many suggestions on how to do this, but it is so scattered, and I don't want to start something I'm not sure of doing on my new SUV. Can anyone tell me, the sure fire way of getting this done as of today? I have a long trip to Maryland next week from Iowa and would love to have this up and running. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated. :woot:

First off, Welcome to the QX56 Forum! Greetings from the staff here at NICOclub!

I own a 2010 Armada that I completed this mod on, I previously owned a 2008 Armada, same thing. I also did the mod on my G37xS, and a friend's Murano. So I can tell you that everything in the thread here in this forum is totally correct.

- use the FSM located here: http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/QX56/2008/
- FSM will show you how to remove the center console (this is rather simple to do)
- Purchase a DPDT switch from Radio Shack
- Use 22 or 20 gauge wire to do this wiring
- what you do is cut the VSS wire and the E-Brake wire at the back of the AV unit. One position of the switch will keep everything stock, the other will connect the E-Brake and VSS wires from the back of the AV unit to a good ground which "tricks" the AV unit into thinking the parking break is on and the vehicle is not in motion.

This works AWESOME! It is seriously a flawless mod, and can be done for under $10.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Timmbo, you are the MAN! I will be digging in my dash this weekend. LOL! The fsm that you included with your reply, where would I find how to remove the center console? I can't find it, and I know that I have overlooked it. Thanks for your help again.

Timmbo, also is the vss wire and e brake wire still labeled as wire #80 and #82 behind the AV in the 08 Qx56?

I believe so, pin numbers are the same, colors probably not.

Hello again-- I'm just getting around to installing the mod with the dpdt switch you referred me to. I'm kinda embarrassed to say but when it comes down to the switch, how exactly do you wire and ground the e-brake and VSS wires to the switch? Once I got into it, I wasn't sure what the heck to do. Any help is greatly appriciated. :ohno:

You can ground it to any good metal part of the frame. There are several good locations inside when you pull the dash apart. You could also tap into the ground for the 12v outlet. Did you look at the thread regarding this modification?

Timmbo, I finally got the mod installed and it was a piece of cake. It works GREAT!!!! Thanks for all your help on this installation. I do have one more question, and I'm sure you can give me a quick answer. My brake lamp stays on while I'm Rollin down the street or sitting still. What did I do wrong and how do I fix it. Everything else works fine except for that. :chuckle:

R u talking about the brake lamp on your dash?

If so, is it on when the movies are viewable on the front screen?

Timmbo, yes the brake light on the dash is lit now when I have it in both modified and unmodified mode and the bell is dinging.

Also, the light is on constantly when the movies are not on the front screen and again when the movies are on the front screen.

something is not right there, let me think on this, are you sure you grounded those wires properly?

If you are 100% confident that the wires are grounded properly, then you may need to disconnect your battery and reconnect it.

I have it grounded to a bolt behind the AV. I will reground it to the 12 volt socket instead and see what happens. Hopefully that will work. I'll let you know.

something else may not be right, make sure it is the wires coming out of of the AV unit that are going to the ground. The brake light really should not be on in the "stock" position.
