Purchased my M45x in October and love it. It's my second Infiniti after owning a Q45.
The car came with 2 key fobs, and I always carry both with me - one in my pants (what I'd call the "spare"), and one in my jacket "main" key. The 2-key thing stems from locking my keys in a running car many years ago and vowing to never let that happen again.
Both keys work, they have cut keys that fit the car and both have good batteries.
Here's the question....does the car only recognize one fob at any given time, or does it not care? And does carrying two confuse anything?
Reason being is sometimes the fobs get a "case of the stupids".
I may walk out to the car with the spare fob, and it takes a minute or two to for the car to recognize it (or vice-versa with the "main"). I actually have to hit the buttons on the fob as opposed to walking up and touching the unlock on the door. And sometimes, I'll get the "No Key ID" message.
The other thing I noticed is when pressing the brake and start button, there is a short lag before it starts.
If I put a different key in the emergency slot, it will start faster after that when using pressing brake and start button.
I'm guessing a way around the "spare" phobia is to remove the battery key from the spare, knowing that I will always be able to get in and start the car if something happens to the "main" key.
Sorry for the long-winded post....was trying to cover everything.

Eh... I only carry one and sometimes mine gets a case of the stupids too. It will randomly not start and I have to put the key in the slot.

Also the car won't let you lock the key inside. Try it sometime. In that regard, it's actually pretty smart.

^^^^This... I think the delay is normal. I have an issue when I put my cell phn in the same pocket as my key. The NO KEY icon comes on and then I have to put it in the slot. Freaked me out the first time and then I remembered the slot.

The car knows if the key fob is inside the car or outside the car as stated above. You can NOT lock the car if the key fob is inside it. You can, however, lock the car with the door button while it's running if the key fob is in your pocket. Comes in handy when it's 90 degrees and you just need to dash into a shop and don't want the car to heat up while you're gone. I don't recommend this if you're at the mall and the car will be running for an hour whilst you browse.
There is really no need to keep both fobs on your person. Even if the the remote won't open the door, you can use the cut key to open the door, then slide the fob inside the slot on the dash to run the car.

Thanks for the replies - the only reason I carry both fobs is on the rare case that I may lose one - just never want to be stranded anywhere.
