Ok so after exploring my options with a QX and deciding to stay with my M45S I've gone back to modifying my M with a few minor touches..... But I need your help! This might be a no brainer to some but, I like the sound of my factory M45 exhaust...sooooo, without further ado:
-$200 quad 3" stainless tips
-$300 Magnaflow dual tips(kinda like stillen)
-$400 Megan axle back quad tip system
Give me your opinion along with your reason (if you would) and it will be very much appreciated!! BTW... just got my custom license plate and picked up R2C M45 intake (currently have K&N drop in) to go with it and roof spoiler from ebay! Considering black chrome for my stock 19", grill, and bottom grill...want the fuga tail lights for '08+ but theyre high $$$.
Let me know as I must decide in the next few days... :bigthumb:

Megan Racing is the best bang for the buck. But I would tell you to also get the mid-pipe. You'll have a fully polished exhaust, good looking welds with a great sound. It's a bolt on system that works.

Both axle back exhaust and mid-pipe go for about $650 shipped to your door, just got to shop around for best price.

sad part is that no one makes a y-pipe for the M45 yet.

Leaning towards the megan axle back for the budget mind... Fortunately I can go back later and purchase the mid pipes :dblthumb: .... We'll see what the final verdict is!! Thanks

On my M35 I just had local shop do magnflows with quad 4" tips and it looks killer but OEM and sounds great and installed 450 out the door, and I can always go back for the midpipe but for a v6 the sound is great and little more power is worth it anymore probably might sound too raspy

My local shop quoted me $300 for magnaflows but thats only dual tips... Quad tips will add about $100 more....So I see megan as the better buy for $400. Still undecided... :gotme for now....

I think you can get the Megan Racing axle back exhaust for about $350 shipped or lower.

I did my mufflers on the floor in 30 degrees with losts of wind. The hardest part will be taking the rusted bolts out.

I think I had to wait 4 months as it was on back order. I had the mid-pipe installed first as I waited for the mufflers.

It really doesn't seem that difficult... I can probably handle it. What lubricant did you use to spray down the bolts and hangers for the mufflers?? If any??

Go junction produce exhaust type II i believe? It sounds great and not that much louder than stock. I read they give a good boost in HP but then again in comparison with our stock exhaust anything cam be better. They are so damn heavy. I youtubed some video clips of diff exhausts to see if anything sounds like what you would want, but sometimes those videos dont do it justice.

not mass produced but this is what the same shop that did mine did for someone that has a stillen. I think an X/H pipe is better than Y pipe but this is a good alternative to people who dont want to hack away on their polished ss exhaust from either stillen or megan.

i think my wording was bad on the previous post. The shop that did my custom exhaust also did that Y pipe for someone else's M45. I have a magnaflow x pipe true dual set up without a stillen cat back unlike that picture i provided. I dont think a custom Y pipe would be a whole lot though. Just call around some custom exhaust shops in you're area to see what they'd charge.

So, is this y pipe minus cats or are they still on?? And from this pic, where are the cats if any?? Further up front is my guess if theyre still on... :gotme

From what I have seen the cat is in front of the y pipe. You will need to buy a test pipe or high flow cat. I have not read anything about g35/350z parts being compatible but I think it should fit. once I get around to ordering and installing my y pipe I can confirm this. In that pic I believe it is showing a catback setup.

There are no cats in that y pipe. The stuff you do see are just flex pipes. There is however primary cats still which is right in the engine bay and not viewable from that picture. As for pricing its hard to say how much since depending on the area you live in and craftsmanship affects the pricing. I would think no moe than 300 though, 100 for labor and rest in parts. If you don't put in those flex pipes that reduces cost too. Also there have been some people who put on g35 y pipes, they just neded some slight modification.

And OP you should get custom tips, quad all the way. Have you seen stillen in person before? I think if you run a single tip it should be oval like element ex system.

yo yo...what up!!! just splurge on the Megan system -- mids and axle backs...you'll be very happy.

I have the Megan mids and axle backs and the Motordyne xyz pipe (replaces the Y pipe) it has different modules (resonator, high flow cat, straight pipe) that are interchanging pieces depending on your specific need. if you're gonna run test pipes, then swap in the HFC, etc...I posted my set up but can't find the thread but not really using the search function either...

at start up and light rev, the exhaust sounds great...stealthy but people around know it isn't stock...at cruising, it sounds deep and pleasant...now while in manual mode and shifting thru the gears and reving high, it sounds bad @$$....I'm experimenting with a stock g35 Ypipe right now and my muffler guy is testing it...I also have a used Megan Ypipe prior to my xyz pipe... and oh, I forgot to mention driving thru tunnels or parking garages...oh boy!!! Since I have a few other performance mods (and more to come) the car sounds really beefy compared to a stock M35.

Now this I REALLY like!! Details please.... How much for the whole setup (break it down, hf cats, xyz pipes, etc...)?? Is this the Megan version of their "full exhaust" at $650+?? Or your custom xyz piping?? :poke:

^ @ Bodyguard --

the Megan set up (mid pipes & axle backs) were put on first -- along with a used Megan Y pipe. Once my XYZ pipe was available, I swapped out the Megan y pipe, still a good piece, but I liked the xyz better due to the different set up possibilities. The axle back and mids I picked up for a little under than the going market price -- the shop I went thru is right around the corner from Megan Racing Headquarters and since I didn't have to pay for shipping it was a steal. I went over to Megan and helped pick up the set. The XYZ pipe from Motordyne was pricey...in the $400 range...but I did plenty of research on it and felt it was justified...I can't complain...to give you an idea, at high speeds, I definately feel the difference with the flow after having the xyz pipe and megan set up...to open up the car on the fwy and to feel it pull hard and up into the high end band is a good feeling...plus having the Uprev tune really puts everything into place. after all my mods, I got retuned and got my air/fuel (AFR) in a good place so I avoid ever running lean or too rich.

...this is what I currently have as mods(engine, intake, exhaust) for my car:

Z Tube (replaced stock air intake tube)
K&N drop in filter

Motordyne: 5/16 plenum spacer, MREV2 (lower plenum modified),Isothermal intake manifold gasket,
XYZ pipe (with resonator module)

Megan Racing: Mid pipe and Axle Back exhaust

Uprev (Osiris with Cipher)

**researching High Flow Cats, CAMS, Headers, Pulleys**

But I do believe the exhaust has really helped the performance improvement....besides, the craftsman of the Megan is really clean. I took the car for an oil change and the Nissan mechanic came out and complimented me on the exhaust set up...I thought that was pretty cool for him to pay attention to detail. Also, if you ever want to go back to stock just keep your exhaust and part out the Megan -- its all bolt on stuff :dblthumb:
