So I've been searching around the forum for a few months and haven't really found a definitive answer. Basically what I've found out through my search is that there is not much of an aftermarket for the M45. I also haven't seen much talk of the 08 year on here. So I'm hoping I can figure out a few things.

1. What's the weak points in these cars? What kind of power can stock parts handle without risk of failure?

2. What performance modifications are available for the M45? Intake, custom y-pipe/exhaust, transgo shift kit, dyno tune? Is there anymore that can be done or available? I.e. Porting, throttle body work, light weight/ported manifolds (since headers are not available) etc...

3. Has anyone done these things? Are there proven gains?

The main thing I'm trying to achieve here is setup at least a one stop shop for knowledge on what can be done. Not looking to build some 800whp racecar. I've had track and strip cars. I just want more out of my DD. Also I'm jumping the gun on getting info as my car budget was turned into a wedding budget. But oh well.

Thanks in advance for the info. Any insight is much appreciated.

Unfortunately, I don't think you're going to find many answers. As far as I know no one has done much more than bolt-ons and a tune. I've seen very few dynos on the M45. You might check out some of the other sub-forums... maybe the Titan or the FX guys have done some more extensive work. There seems to be a lot more info out there on the 35 since it shares engines with EVERYTHING Nissan builds.

Do a search of the forum...there's actually quite a bit of performance bolt-on additions that can be done to the M45 to make it a more satisfying DD from a performance and cosmetic perspective. :yesnod

The 06-10 M45 are all the same, no changes were made although reliability seems to have improved in the 08+ so I was told by the master tech at the local infiniti dealership! :gotme

The most work I've ever seen on an M45:

I read this, I'm wondering me sick. I never realized this before. But try again Ah I'm just beginning to understand. I feel that the story is very good here.

Most of that is all custom work anyway regardless of if you have the V6 or V8. You can do whatever you want if you are willing to pay, that stuff for the V6 is still incredibly expensive. The majority of additional "bolt ons" that the V6 has for engine stuff is pretty much just the intake, and the fact that we share some suspension stuff with the 350z and G35/37. if it werent for those cars we wouldn't have much intake or suspension to choose from either.

You can modify some Titan headers if you want to do that. Or Fluid Motordyne also did some V8 headers.

Disagree. There are all kinds of VQ35 turbo kits, supercharger kits, headers, throttle bodies, etc. There are no off the shelf headers or forced induction kits for the Vk45 that I can find.

The guy that tried to fit the titan headers I thought eventually gave up?

Forced induction kits arent really bolt on's. It requires a dyno tune, usually professional installation, and quite often engine work to handle the additional power.

Semantics. The fact is I can order a lot more stuff on the internet for a VQ35 than a VK45, bolt-on or not.

Yea that car in the link is quite a bit more than I expect to go. I'm just looking to see what's available without doing custom fabrication (other than a Y-pipe), major internals, or forced induction. Although I may take an attempt at those headers if I can find a used set for cheap. Just looking for insight on where I can get things.

Also, before anyone asks again. Yes, I have looked through and searched the forums (vk45de, Fx45/Titan, m45). Haven't found the info I wanted so I'm hoping someone can find what I'm not able to.

Basic exhaust and intake is all I can fine.
R2C intake and Megan Racing exhaust is about all I've settled on.

An easy job is to port and polish the upper intake manifold. FMU gained 11hp from it. I had it performed on my extra intake manifold but the butterflies didn't line up correctly because I previously dropped it and bent the connecting arm.

And these upper intake manifolds are universal from the 06-10 correct.

Also I read a few things on the catch can being helpful but haven't seen anything other this performed on the early model year M45s. Would the 08+ M benefit from this?

Do you have any pictures of the p&p job you did?
