Hello All,
I'm new to site but joined for some expertise guidance. I own a G37S w/ 54xxx. Went to start one morning and all good, but didnt sound right. So i pressed gas and there is no power or RPM gauge moving at all. It allowed me to coast in the parking lot but as i pressed gas nothing.... So called infiniti and they towed it to dealership in Coconut Creek, Fl. They had it for couple days then called me and stated my Variable Valve Actuator Motor went out on my passenger side... So they fixed it but were having trouble getting the timing back to normal. The 3rd day goes and they call and said it all done and back to normal. I asked them if this is normal since never heard of that going bad, they stated not to normal but they have seen it before. So my question to you is, Is that normal and would that be considered a manufacture defect where could qualify for them to buy back car? I dont want to deal w/ issues in future because i love the car. I'm very easy on car adult driven, no mods, all stock... Any help, or info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Its unlikely they will buy back the car. Lemons usually require that the car has multiple failures that fail to be resolved. The reality is all parts have a useful life cycle. And while its likely your part failed prematurely, one can expect that some will. Chances are, its not likely the part will fail again as quickly. And thankfully, it occurred while under warranty.

:welcome: to NICO!

I wouldn't think it's a common failure... I haven't heard of it much. I'd just chalk it up to getting that 1 or 2% early failure rate part. Somebody's got to get it, right? As C-Kwik mentioned, lemon laws tend to kick in for repeat failures of the same item where there's a pattern of the problem not really being fixed. If you're planning on keeping the car outside of the warranty period, you might consider an extended Infiniti Elite warranty that'll add several years of bumper to bumper coverage - just for the peace of mind. That's what we did on the wife's G.

I appreciate the input guys. I went to pick car up over weekend and as they were pulling it up it did it again! They claimed they replaced the part and test drove it as well! Had to leave it again so it could be further diagnosed. Not sure these mechanics know their stuff cause they said they had problems adjusting the timing and this happened.

Not exactly confidence inspiring. They'll get it fixed though... hopefully you're flogging the loaner car appropriately :D
