Hey Guys,

I purchased an '08 G37s in July with an auto transmission and I've regretted it ever since. I love the car , the interior, the wheels, it's gorgeous and at the same time no fun to drive.

I'm a slow driver but the few times I have stepped on it (not all out) the trans shifts multiple times like it is searching for a gear. Every time, I don't think I have had it hold a gear ever and it's really aggravating when your trying to move out. Also, when I get off of the freeway, I get a surge and the car jerks a little bit like the car wants to go but the trans is stumbling.

I've searched but everything brought up is for the '09 and later 7 speed trans. I guess I am just looking for some advise as to what my options are? Are there any upgrades that make the trans hold a gear when I need it to?

By the way, I've also tried the DS mode but the shifts are too slow.

Any thoughts?

Thank You

Dust

Hi there, I own a 08 G35x with the same transmission and I hate to say it, but it sounds like a problem with your car. If I do WOT launches from a stand still,
my car goes to 7500-7800 RPM through every gear during acceleration and shifts smoothly, both in "Auto" and if I shift manually in DS mode. I would take it
to the dealership if you have warranty coverage or a thick wallet, because that isn't normal operation.

5AT was only in the 2008 and I, like tgeml, really have no issues with my 5AT. i like it better than the 7AT in my Q50s

I have a 2012 G37x and the transmission = 7 speed automatic (Transmission model 7AT RE7R01A) is a piece of junk.

I used to own a 2005 G35x = 5 speed automatic (Transmission model RE5R05A) was an excellent transmission.

My car suffers from terrible lag when accelerating if coasting or cruising. You can't safely "make a move" in traffic because the car does not respond quick enough.

If you talk to anyone at Infiniti, they just play dumb and tell you that this is the first time that they've ever heard of it.

Uh huh.

You can show them all kinds of information on the internet and they just say that they don't know anything about it.

In other words, they are in full denial mode on this one.

I have no real lag issues in my Q with the 7AT that I would not consider normal. You should go ahead and get rid of your car and get a Toyota.

Use the auto-manual mode if you want more responsiveness. I find it very quick to shift compared to other auto-manuals I've driven. "D" is for smooth transitions and works well for city driving under 30 mph -- you just "think" and it does. "DS" is fantastic for curves and hills and typically works as well as shifting yourself for enthusiastic driving where you need to brake before corners. But when passing another car on the highway nothing beats, sliding over to "DS", pushing up to "4" and then "3" while maintaining the same speed, and then stomping on the gas. No hesitations there and you will be going 25mph faster before anyone knows what you have done.

Now the sad part. I think my manual mode is disabling after it is overheating. It's doing this more and more lately and I've changed the fluids. I've posted to another thread about that. It's my only true reservation about this truly fantastic 5-speed automanual. -pc

I think you're right.

Even a Camry would be better than an Infiniti with a 7 speed automatic now that you mention it.
