Hi guys,

New owner, already w/ a problem. Sometimes when I shift from Park to DS, it stays in D. Also, sometimes, I can't shift from D to DS, both conditions are using the gear shift.

I can downshift via the paddles, and then upshift via the paddles to an extent.

It seams very intermittant, I have 2-weeks on my warrenty (50/50). Any ideas on whats going on? Hopefully something simple.

Thanks in advance.

Found this elsewhere
"G37 intermittently reverts to the automatic shift mode when the stick is in the manual position only allowing manual shifting with the paddles. The only way to get the manual functionality with the stick is to shut the engine down and restart. I don't want to have to Ctrl+Alt+Del everytime I want to manually shift my car. I've taken it in to the dealership, low and behold they couldn't duplicate the problem. Please help"

For me, re-starting the car doesn't always do the trick.

This morning, I could get it into DS 1, but as I went down my driveway it went straight into D.

I would get the problem documented in writing at the dealership - with a note from them "can not duplicate" and make sure it makes it into the service records. This should help you if you can get it to act up a week out of the warranty or something...

Is it temperature sensitive? Do you notice it only during the first drive of the day? Any pattern you can establish is important when trying to get the dealership to notice it.

I did a google search using the term "g37 will not shift from D to DS" and the first result got some pretty good results. I can't directly link you to a competing forum, but this should get you there. Apparently several members there had the same issue and their dealership replaced the shifter assembly. One of them made sure to not turn the car off and drive directly to the dealership so that a code DTC P1815 (manual mode switch failure) was still visible to them. He said his dash light did not come on, and I'm assuming that code isn't stored - since his dealership could not duplicate the issue on his two previous visits.

Good luck!

Ok, thanks. And yes, my dash light does not come on, and it doesn't appear to be temperature related.
