I just got a new 08 G37 coupe with nav. I have two questions about the radio display.

First, my local radio station broadcasts RDS. My old 06 G35 (without nav) used to display the artist and song that’s playing. For some reason, the new G37 doesn’t show it. When listening to XM, I can see the name of the artist and song playing, but on FM it doesn’t show it. Any ideas?

Second, on XM when it does display artist/song info, it only shows like the first 15 characters. I have this huge display screen, but can’t see the entire name of a song. This seems like an insane design flaw. Is there any way to make the words “scroll”? This might sound silly, but it seems crazy to me that on this massive screen I can’t see the entire name of a song or artist.

Thanks!

Stephane

I'll have to look again at the FM side of the tracks which I rarely used but have recently found a couple of new local stations I actually like. With XM the issue of not using the space provided seems to be fairly common on many other units as well. I find it bizzare as well that you have all of this space and don't use it. I can understand it maybe from the other side of the tracks that it takes some resources for the info to be entered in some manner.

Also I find it very annoying that you are limited in many other ways such as the use of the hard drive menus when you are moving. If this is really that huge of a safety issue then why are you not so limited when using the iPod? In fact just let me use the same interface with a different source or allow me to insert cd and record to the iPod.

The same goes with the nav. I find it more dangerous to try to make work arounds to these limitations then to not have them. It is this that is driving many to find the easiest way of bypassing the limitations.
