08 G35s sedan- how much offset is too much?

So, here's my plan for my wheel/tire upgrade. Trying to eek out a bit more performance on track days without going too aggressive and needing suspension work (hey, it's a lease):

Stock:Front: 18x7.5 +45mm offset, 225/50/18Rear: 18x8.5 +50mm offset, 245/45/18

Going to a set of Rays 19s:Front: 19x8", +30mm, 225/45/19Rear: 19x8.5", +33mm, 245/40/19

Tire circumference is extremely tight, so no worries there.

As far as the wheels go, for the rears, looks like I'll need 17mm spacers to keep it completely aligned how the 18s are. For the fronts, 21mm spacers get me flush on the outsides, but put me 12mm closer to the struts.

So, two questions- anyone know off the top of their heads if I've even got 12mm wheel-to-strut to spare? That's less than a half inch, so guessing I do (before going in and actually measuring). Also, do my bolts have the room for 17 and 21mm spacers, or do I go with spacers that include bolt extensions? Anything wrong with spacing out this much- suspension concerns or otherwise?

Thanks all!

If you add spacers to the rear, it's going to make it stick out even FURTHER. You're saying that you need 17mm spacers to make them "line up" with the originals. However, this is NOT the case. The new wheels will have 9mm more inner clearance and extend another 21mm. The rears will have 17mm more clearance and extend another 17mm outwards. Spacers would only make them extend even further.

As Jerome mentioned, you've got the whole offset thing backwards.

Here's a good article that discusses Wheel tech.

I'm pretty sure there are a few guys running the 19" G35 Coupe Rays on their G35 Sedan without any clearance issues ... actually they fit/look real nice.

Actually there is more room on the 08 sedan then the first gens when using the 19" rays.

If you add a 17mm spacer the new offset would be 33-17= 16mm. You could get away with a 10mm spacer at most.

Ok, you got me- I was clicking "+" to increase offset in the offset calculator, and I was incorrectly thinking increasing the offset was equivalent to adding spacer- but it's the opposite. Thanks for helping me think it out a bit more.

So, without adding any spacers at all, sounds like the Rays would still be a nice fit on the '08?

Yes they would. If you want them to be even more flush, try a 10mm spacer. Either way the will fit.

So what is the offset range? I have an 07 G35 Sedan Sport and I want to go19x8.5 front and 19x9.5 back. Whats the maximum and minimum offsets I can go with without having to roll the lip? Also whats the widest tire front and back I can fit?

It just states what you might typically run but not what the range is.

The second gen sedan can run a more aggressive offset than the first gen. So run a 20mm offset up front with 8.5" wheel & 25-30mm offset in the rear on 9.5" wheel. Run a 245/275 tire setup. Those specs will be aggressive and if you aren't lowered, it will look like sh*t. Because you will need the negative camber from lowering it to make it look right and tuck the tops of the tires in to fit under the fenders.

I don't want to screw up the handling so I'm not going to change the camber so I'm guessing those offsets won't work for me. I wasn't planning on lowering it either, so does anyone know the range? Also can you fit a 19 x 9.5 wheel in the front with 255 width tires?

With the proper offset you can fit a 9.5" wheels. At least a 20-25mm offset up front. That will be a very aggressive setup because a 9.5" wheel will stick out an additional 12mm over that of a 8.5" wheel and will also be 12mm closer to the suspension arm. If you don't plan on lowering the car, your best best is a 8.5" with 25mm offset or 9" with 30mm offset up front and 9.5" with 30mm offset or 10" with 35mm offset in the rear. You can still run a 255 on a 8.5" wheel and run a 275 out back.

Here is a sedan w/370 z wheels. Specs on the 370z wheels are:

front - 19x9, +47 offsetrear - 19x10, +30 offset

He is running a 20mm spacer on the front so the offset is essentially a 27mm.

The rear tires stick out because they have 295/40 tires. 275/35 would be perfect.
