'08 Coupe 3.5 -- Oil Filter ?

Hey, I was wondering if I need a special type of oil Filter when changing my oil. I have a friend at work that has a Nissan Titan and she said that in order for her to change her oil, she has to get them from Nissan, because there is something special about them. This does not seem right to me, but I wanted to ask, before I went to Advance Auto to get an oil filter that was not right. I saw the one thread were people were saying to use Mobile 1, which I was planning on using, but was wondering about the filter.

Yes, your friend is right! Nissan oil filters are superior to regular over-the-counter filters such as Fram and others becuase they are equipped with an anti-drain back valve. When the motor is shut off, the filter retains oil.

You don't NEED or are required to use a Nissan filter. As generic has already mentioned, they are a better filter. Its always good to use OEM when you can.

I will use whatever the Quickie Lube place has on ther $19.94 oil and filter change special...probably some cheap Fram.

They are usally working under the pit...I bet you they just wipe the filter and don't even change it...you can never tell..em bastards.

So true. I heard some places just drain out your old oil and refill without even changing the filter!!

True. I've always heard of Jiffy Lube doing that and putting some crappy oil into your car, even when you order the good stuff. Basically, I wouldn't go to these public places but would find a trustworthy mechanic that can do the oil change and inspect other parts. Otherwise, do it yourself.
