Wife has an 08 AWD Rogue we have been experiancing a rattling, clunking noise at low speeds for probably the life of the vechile..but everytime she takes it to the dealer and explains the noise they say they dont hear or they tighten bolts on the heat shield and say thats what it was or just say they dont experience it when they test drive it..which is a crock.. until today we had dropped the car off for service oil change and notified them about the noise again! which they say they will check into.. so i call them to find out the status and they say the noise we are hearing is from the front brakes being worn and that we need to resplace them... good thing today i googled this abou a NIssan Rogue noise and brought this forum and all the issues with CVT which from the posts that are on hear are the same sounds i am experiancing! so when i told them about this website and the issues with the CVT..They say oh we are aware of that issue..and that its not the CVT cause it will be a loud whinning sound from the transmission..and the noise iam hearing is from the ABS system reseting itself! so basically they are giving me the runaround and dont want to fix! What do I do Now???????

Hi there ATwaste,

I'm sorry to hear about your problems. It's a little difficult to know exactly what is going on from your brief description. Have you read all of the descriptions of the CVT rattle issue on this forum, and are you pretty sure this is the noise you are experiencing? When I had the problem, it was at slow parking-lot speeds, and it was definitely a grinding and rattling noise, it would also occur just before coming to a stop.

My advice is to accept their diagnosis for the time being provided you get their assurance that after they fix the front brakes they are confident the noise will disappear. If they assure you that this will solve your problem, I don't think you have anything to lose, and even if it does not remedy the situation you need new front brakes anyway according to the tech so this is the obvious first step. If it doesn't work they'll be embarrassed and willing to work hard to find a proper solution - they won't want to fail twice in a row so use the human ego to your advantage here. Get the work done, and if the noise is still present then go back and let them know and I'm pretty sure they'll find the source of the problem if given enough chances. The only other option would be to try another dealer if one is available, if not you're pretty much stuck with these guys for CVT issues (if that is in fact the problem).

Also, if they aren't successful I highly recommend going for a drive with the Service Manager and the service tech and demonstrate the noise for them, if the noise is like most CVT problems it's easy to replicate.

I agree it's frustrating when you feel your service department isn't effective or helpful, but you do have to work with them and give them the benefit of the doubt sometimes. Be persistent and don't give up until the problem is resolved, but also make sure you don't get on their bad side because that will be counter-productive and most likely they're doing their best. And I think there's a good chance that they may surprise you and fix your problem, remember they work on these vehicles every day and should be experts on them! Let them give it a shot, see if the problem persists and please report back with the results, we're all curious to know how it works out! Good luck!
