Does the refreshed Armada still take regular unleaded? I know the '07 uses regular, however is there any difference/increase in horsepower or torque in the '08 that requires higher octane (similar to that of the QX4 refresh in the past)? I like the QX56, but the premium requirement is a big turnoff considering gas prices these days. In that aspect, the Armada is a good alternative for the same size and ride. While I'm on the same subject, is there a way to de-tune the QX56 engine to make it run on regular gas instead (so as to prevent the "knocking" associated with using 87 octane)?

Yes, the 2008 does take REGULAR unleaded gas. In many parts of the country the Armadas and Titans have a Flex Fuel engine. So you can also run E85 in them if you have the FF engine. So that is a bonus if you are in one of those regions, and if you have an E85 station near by.
