I have an 08 Altima Coupe 2.5S. The car has 53,000 miles and is well out of the warranty period.
I got in my car on Saturday during a heavy rain storm, and noticed water dripping steadily from around the rear dome light. I never ever leave my sunroof open while the car is parked, especially if it's raining.
I was scheduled to get other repairs from a local mechanic on Monday morning, so I had him take a look at it.
The headliner was completely filled with water and had to be vacuumed out. The sunroof track apparently has 4 plastic hoses in the 4 corners for it to drain out underneath the car. 1 front hose was kinked under the dashboard, causing the water to back up. And the 2 back hoses had separated from the sunroof track due to poor glue, causing the water to leak onto the headliner.
The mechanic had to remove the entire headliner and pillar liners to repair. Good thing the headliner is fiberglass, otherwise that would need to be replaced too.
It took them over 8 hours of labor for this, and was very costly. This certainly seems like a manufacturing defect and the mechanic agreed. There is no possible way that this could have been caused by me or by normal driving.
Is there any possibility that Nissan would reimburse me for the cost of this repair, since it is obviously not my fault?
