now i've been having problems with mine for about 2-3months now. I've looked through th other threads and heard a couple other 08 2.5s having some of the same problems ive been having.. One of my buddies told me the 08 altima was recalled, but i asked the mechanic at nissan and he said they weren't.. i then asked him if my transmisson was still under warrenty, im a 75k-ish, and he said no but i read somehere on here im still under warrenty until 120k. so did he jus blow me off to save him work? or is ths altima just going tocost me more than its worth to fix..?

The transmission warranty was extended, you are correct. However if thats not your problem (which you havent stated yet) then the warranty is not going to help you.

the problem is after an hour on the highway my rpm's get stuck at 2-3k and i have the pedal smashed down, i realized somtin was obviously wrong, but ignored it anways and contiued pushing.. evntually, every little puch on the gas sent my rpm's racing up but no movement.. its been happening beforeo i know the drill, pull over on the next exit and chill for about 15min. usuall its back to normal until it heats up again, then again with the pulling over.. what im looking for is reasons why ths is happening, and if is normal for this years model? if so then what shoud i do?

Tell that technician that blew you off or a smarter one that Nissan extended the warranty on their CVT concraption to ~100,000 miles back a year or two ago, and that they need to look at it and fix it free of charge as long as you've not done anything to cause unusual wear (which I don't think you would have).

What if he bought it used? Does he have any warranty?

Welcome Chimpy,
Go to a different Nissan mechanic. If this guy is going to blow you off then forget it.

At least have it diagnosed.

You should go back to the other dealer's and rub it in their face. Tell them you will never visit their service bay again.

Im not exactly sure what the problem was, but when i took it into nissan all they told me was they found 2 issues w/ my trans
so since the 08's have an extended warrenty on the trans up to 120k or so. You can get a brand new trans like i did. Basically, just take it into nissan and tell them your poblem and that you heard nissan extended the warrenty and you'd like them to take care of it. pretty simple, and free

Were you driving for an extended period of time in hot weather?

This is normal. The car cuts power to protect the transmission. I had the same issue driving in 110F+ heat for a few hours. The rev limiter dropped to 3,000RPM and the car was very sluggish. After I let it cool down, it was back to its old self.

Sometimes switching between CVT and manual modes also got it out of that mode. But if you're experiencing that, it means your transmission is too hot, and trying to bypass it may do more harm than good.

I have an 08 CVT 2.5 and had a similar problem. Long term CVT whine leading up to a power cut one day followed by skyrocketing RPMs. It was not easy to get them to do it, but the dealership finally fixed it. They said they just reset the transmission to stock settings. It's been about 12,000 miles since and everything has been fine. Kind of pisses me off that my CVT was whining for about two years and all they had to do was a reflash. Oh well.
