I'm with you imichael. I also have considered changing out the speedo cluster but I haven't been able to confirm that the connectins / size are the same for both years. I have seen the inside of the multi-switch (NAV, A/C cluster) and those lights are actually little diodes mounted ON the circuit board - I'm assuming the speedo cluster is made the same way so we probably can't just yank it out and change the LEDs to a different color.- If you get any more info regarding swapping out the entire cluster piece, please update !

it is.... the purple looks soooo sick. i saw a couple of the ac/lcd control panels on ebay. the problem would be getting the panel with the cd player because its a diferent colored wood, and we would have to convert the rest of the wood panels for it too match... my M is non GPS and i noticed on the non gps 08 models instead of radio, disc, and audio text to the left of the directional buttons its radio, AUX, and then disc... being that we dont have AUX on the 06 Ms i wonder what would it do? or would the order of the buttons change the function? idk im confused lol. anyone think they might know?

Man, it would be so awesome to change everything to the new color scheme...would the mileage be off or is that stored on the ECU somewhere?

Hahha Freddie. Yeah, 180 does good work but for a cost.

The only issue I have is if the speedometer will lose it's mileage (if it's stored in the speedometer instead of the ECU).

Otherwise, all you really need is 7 parts (maybe 8).

- Speedometer cluster
- Radio/Navigation Buttons
- Clock/Disc/Preset faceplate
- 4 door switches

Optional would be replacing the little LED light that shines down into the center console area (orange on 06-07's not sure what color it is on the newer ones) and the little LED that shines down on the driver side window switch.

This wouldn't even be that pricey of a switch if we could just find out 100% if swapping the speedo would require having someone screw with the milage or if it would just pick up where it left off.

Milage should be in the ECU

Stealer program only

Need to find an 08 or up in a junkyard or find someone who will be trading in an M.

Where is this orange light by the window switch you speak of?? i have an 08...dont think i have that...but i do have a little ambient light in the middle of the dome lights...it shines into the cupholders....my girl didnt realize how much light it actually produced and questioned whats the purpose of the stupid little light, i told her to put her hand under it

It's right below the door handle on the underside of the trim (you can't see it unless you open the door and tilt your head).

Hey guys!

First off - I want to apologize for bumping such an old thread, but I wanted to clarify a few things as I referenced this thread and spent some money I shouldn't have.

Before I get into the details, I should clarify and say I have a 2006 M45 Sport.

I, like some of you, got tired of the orange in the interior. So, I did a little research and ultimately decided to buy a few 08+ pieces for my interior. First, I bought a gauge cluster. The one I purchased was from a 2010 M35 Sport. It did NOT fully function. The M35 and M45 use two different signals for the tachometer. This means the tachometer on my M45 did NOT work. Also, the 2010 M35 has a 7 speed transmission. The bottom left LCD screen that displays the Intelligent Cruise Control and Gear position did NOT function properly. In park it said I was in Manual Mode gear 2. Also, I want to reiterate the point that the ECU DOES NOT store mileage. Mileage is stored in the CLUSTER. So - if you replace the cluster, you lose the mileage. The dealership should be able to reprogram the cluster - but I didn't bother with it. I simply wrote down what it was and kept the old cluster. To add to that, the Intelligent Cruise Control will work on all clusters. I ordered one that said it didn't have ICC, but it worked perfectly. One last thing which could be completely coincidental - but I noticed my coolant temp fluctuating a lot with the 2010 cluster. At one point, in a drive thru, the radiator fans kicked on high. It was 30* that night and shouldn't have kicked onto the highest setting. I know coolant temp goes to the cluster, but I thought the ECU used two different circuits for that information. Just wanted to get it out there that I experienced that issue. I have not experienced this with the correct 08' M45 cluster yet.

Moving on, I purchased a climate control from a 08' M. It did not work. I later found a thread where someone else confirmed it didn't work - but I didn't see that when I purchased it. Nothing worked for me. The other guy claimed the A/C controls worked for him - but I had no luck with that. I took both of them apart and they are different. I am not sure what it would take to make it work. I am going to research further.

I also purchased a clock and radio buttons 1-6. They DO come out of the wood/aluminum trim whatever you have. I changed them out (as the design of the aluminum changed) and they function perfectly. The only "issue" is the LED that comes from the CD changer. It is still orange. I would have to replace the CD changer to change the color.

I also purchased a 08' M45 Push Button Start. It functions perfectly with no issues.

I am planning on purchasing a few more 08+ bits and I will update with the results.

Again - sorry for bumping an old thread, but I wanted to get some good information in this thread as I referenced it when switching over my interior bits and could have saved some money.

Finally - I have no regrets swapping over the cluster. What a difference! I love it. My interior looks weird at the moment from the Purple/Orange confusion - but I will get it all swapped in due time!
