Alright, I need your help. I'm stationed overseas in Germany and I started having problems with my cooling system. I haven't taken it to the dealer yet because of how expensive it will be and the language barrier. Here's my issue:

After flushing the radiator (65k miles, no prior symptoms) I started having problems with the engine coolant overflowing from the reservoir. I top the coolant off, squeeze the top hose to make sure the entire system is filled, fill the reservoir to about 50% and ran it again with the same results. The problem is it's not consistent, some days it's fine, some days it overflows. Today I noticed it overflowing when the car reached 206 degrees Fahrenheit (within normal range). I've changed the thermostat, temperature sensor and radiator cap... and yes I used a 50/50 mixture ratio. Yes the engine fan turns on (at around 206 degrees), and so does the electric motor. I'm at a loss and need some advice... Suggestions anyone?

Correction... the post should read that the engine fan is on and the electric motor turns on at around 206 degrees...

Hmmm. The R51's have a pressurized reservoir. Did you switch the caps by mistake? Is the pressure relief spring on your cap working?

Also, does your pathfinder have the fixed radiator? At around 80k the original radiator design would start leaking coolant into the transmission and would ruin the transmission.

After a couple hundred dollars of troubleshooting I think your right... I switched the caps. I didn't know the system was pressurized, I had the spring cap on the radiator and the flat cap on the reservoir... isn't that how cars normally are?.. not this car!... I'll just chalk the thermostat and temp sensor change to proactive preventative maintenance.

As far as the recall issue, yes I still have the original radiator installed... my VIN wasn't listed under the recall. I've been keeping an eye on the coolant to make sure thereally isn't any abnormalities.

Thanks for youreading help!

I am glad you resolved your issue, I wold have guessed an incomplete air purge.
But ->

you guys are turning my world upside down right now. Could someone please post up pictures of their r51 engine bay showing the reservoir and radiator?
