I am hoping some one can help...short story is hearing some new noises comeing from the front and rear of my 07 SE, Took it to get tires rotated and service manager at local mechanic said rear tires have "chopped" edges of tread. Dropped it off at dealer asking them to look at it, thinking warranty replacement. Dealer service manager said that both front and rear struts are shot and need replacement, over $1400 repair, plus alignment afterwards and probably 2 new tires. We are the 2nd owners of the car and it only has 35,000 miles on it. Has anyone else had the same issue? Are they difficult to change by myself with help? I have access to a lift in a friends garage.

Even if you are the 2nd owner, better check the in-service date - it may still be covered by warranty. Looks like the PO really abused the car to have all struts shot and tires busted - used the FWD Max for off-roading?

Well it worked out a little better then expected, appently the service writter mistook the 5 in 35000 to be a 9. So the struts are covered under warranty along with a 4 wheel alignment, A little more convincing and I am getting all 4 rotors turned for free, 20% off the 30,000 mile premium service and new front pads for cost. I am trying to work a deal for the new tires since the old struts chewed them up pretty bad.

Great!. Knowing your rightss helps in avoiding unwarranted expenses. Better replace those tires as they will just stress the new struts.

People make mistakes. It's how they deal with it that makes the difference. So it's an honest mistake on their part and they own up to it. Aside from warranty repair, they offered you additional discounts. If I were you, I would give the person you dealt with a gift...need not be fancy. Having a good relationship with a shop/dealership can save you more money in the long term.

I ordered tires last night so that will be taken care of next week. Still a better deal on tirerack then from the dealer, but he is giving me a break on mounting them. Got out with injector cleaning, throttle body cleaning, 30,000 prem. service, rotors turned, front pads installed, and all other waranty work required for a little over $700. And the car is perfoming like new!
