I admit, I know nothing about wheels and tires, and am asking for some advice from the pros. I have an opportunity to buy some 18" M45 wheels and tires. Will these fit my 98 Q45T? Thanks for any advice. Lee.

I think they would bolt on fine. I believe the bolt patterns are the same (5x115mm). You just have to watch the offsets.

Y50 wheels will require spacers. Y34 will not.

The offset on the wheels you want to put on your car are too high (~50), and will not work without using spacers to push the entire wheel/tire assembly out.

Look for 1st year M45 wheels or earlier Q45 wheels. You could even use some G35 or 350Z wheels.

does the same apply for the 2004 Q i am looking at...it appears the stock offset is 35-40mm depending on which rim...

2003 and 2004

17" x 7.5" 40mm18" x 7.5" 35mm

but the M45 has a different offset.18 x 8 1.85 (47mm)19 x 8.5 1.97(50mm)

The Y33 uses much lower offsets than a G50. i would say youd need at least a 20mm spacer to get it to fit right.

If you have no qualms running spacers, then youll be fine...

My opinion (shared by Grant at Tire Rack): Spacers are evil.

Just get the right offset wheel and you will be better off.

While appreciate the evil that looms out there. I have found a local guy with 19 inch M45 wheels that he will sell for $400. That is pretty hard to pass up when I already have a line on some tires from a friend for $130. Putting 19 inch M wheels on my soon to be Q for $430 plus spacers sure sound nice.....

Spacers are non-functional extra unsprung weight and rotational mass.

Save and buy the correct wheel, or suffer the degradation in dynamic performance.

Actually, putting used tires on might elevate you to the status of being the first board member to win the Darwin Award.

I appreciate the feedback, but at this point i don't have $1,900 to get the rims that i want and another $1000 in tires. I am afraid I will have to find another way to skin that cat.

I would save until you can do it right and be more concerned with the conditon of the car and the present tires.

If you HAVE to get spacers H/R makes some good spacers. I run them on my 15s (so I can clear the Z brakes).. good quality and comes with nice new studs...

In all reality, spacers are probably safe to use for normal driving but for my car and the way I drive, its not worth the risk.
