ok i know im gonna hear it for asking but i have looked through the forums for a few days trying to find someone who upgraded the base 6 speaker system rather than just throwing an amp and sub in. I was speaking with a crutchfield rep and they suggested Polk Audio db651s in the back door panels and the polk db6501 woofer and tweeter kit up front powered by an alpine mrp f300 amp to finish it.

i like a variety of music from hiphop to techno to rock but it needs to be able to be loud and a decent bass feel (i know a sub would be best for bass but for now just lookin at speakers). i guess im asking if someone whos done a swap of the awful base 6 speaker system has any input id really appreciate it, and for anyone to offer their opinion or suggestions. I just worry with stuff like this cause im a strapped college kid and this stuff isnt cheap but i love music too much to deal with those cheap stock speakers.

thanks for your help/time

The best cheap upgrade is to replace the tweeters with Infiniti tweeters. Makes a world of difference and is cheap.

Replacing the woofers in the front with Infinit's will yield higher quality audio but you will lose some midbass.

The rears are really not worth replacing in my opinion.

Lastly, if you can afford it you can't go wrong with a decent amplifier and a 12" high Q sealed woofer.

thanks i think im gonna order the speakers and tweeters tonight and do some shopping around for a good sub/amp combo for the very near future. would you suggest throwing an amp in for the new speakers/tweeters or do you think the stock set up will be powerful enough?

The stock amp (assuming you have a Bose system) should be fine.

I have the base 6 speaker setup (which I believe is a non-Bose unit) - my first upgrade was to change out the 4 door speakers with Infinity Reference speakers. I was hoping this would be enough to improve the overall sound without having to invest in anything else. I changed them out myself without too much trouble. I was hoping this would be a simple upgrade that I could actually live with. I would give the original speakers a 5 out of 10 (with 10 being best) in terms of sound - the new speakers really only took it to a 6 out of 10 for me....I reaaaallllllyyyy wanted it to sound better and 'be good enough', but it just didn't do it for me.

6 months later I spent the money and got an amp and subwoofer. Got a 5 channel amp so I could now drive all speakers and sub and control independently (with separate sub volume knob in one of my dash knockouts). World of difference - sitting at a 9.5 out of 10 now.
