Greg and I saw a 2007 Jeep Rubicon today that was just completely badass.

Image

We were actually able to talk to the owner and I asked her if I could be rude and ask her how much she gave for it. I have always liked Jeeps and even though we sure as hell don't need it, I couldn't help but wonder if there was any way we could swing it. Then she drops the bomb. "I talked them down $5,000 to $48,000." Are you freaking kidding me? $48K for a Jeep?

What's even worse, is that I read this review, http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/24/revi ... bicon-4x4/. Holy damn! The guy pretty much hated the whole vehicle with the exception of the day he got to play with it in the snow. No thank you.

Needless to say, that killed my craving for that one, real quick. I did some checking and she got raped on the price. I couldn't find the MSRP for the '07 but the '09 was $35K. It doesn't matter either way. There is no way in HELL I would ever give that!!! Greg and I were discussing it on the way home, doing the math in our heads. What else could you buy for $48K that you would be willing to spend that much on?

Me - a used QX56 would be sweet to haul the family around in  -or-
a 2011 M56 (if I buy it in 2013)
an '06 Titan and a used C5

well, on the plus side, they hold resale very well.

I like jeeps, but I don't 48k like Jeeps

the Rubicon is a very nice stock set up...but for that money, f a Jeep, I'm getting a Raptor.

Image

it's nowhere near as noisey.

But you'd have the satisfaction of knowing you've purchased a fine example of Chrysler engineering! :chuckle:

Can you even put a price on that?

That's an awesome truck, I'd love to drive one, just to see if it lives up to its hype.

it drives more or less like a normal F150 until you take it in the dirt.

read the reviews, everyone that got to use it for what it's for loves the wacky bastard.

I've read the reviews. I would love to drive one though. I like to make my own opinions because I don't always agree with the "experts". I believe I saw one at SEMA last year.

While the raptor is a cool engineering feat it's stupid. No one that drops that kinda cash on a truck like that is gonna go out and run it like it's the baja.I've seen like 4 of those things now being driven by 60 year old men around town.

As far as jeep goes anything after a yj isn't a jeep, they lost their way after 95.It's really unfortunate. It was a horrible day when jeep put out an ifs/irs vehicle.

I can think of NUMEROUS people I know personally who would do EXACTLY that.
And $38k isn't pricey for a pickup anyway. You say "that kinda cash" like it's got some outrageous MSRP. You can easily spend more money on an F150 that's NOT a Raptor. Or a Tundra, or a Silverado.

On this rare occasion, I'm gonna agree with Oatie... I told Bex I'll buy her a Jeep as long as it's a REAL Jeep...

won't argue that either.

I honestly would be cool with a 5 speed 4.0 4x4 Cherokee too.

or an old Wagoneer Cherokee.

Really? you know people who are gonna go out and run a 1000miles at 150mph over 10ft whoops, with cliffs, ruts, and the possibility of rolling over/dieing?

Besides even if you do the truck would fall apart after 60 miles of it.And 38k is a lot of cash for a truck that's pretty good for only one thing.

They start at $38k and go up to about $46k. Dealer I talked to laughed when I asked if you could get one for under $40K OTD.

Dumb to buy one now with the 5.4 - the 6.2 comes out in 2011.

ya and how much of that interior had fallen apart? i love my american vehicles but the interiors suck especially when you try and rally down a dirt road with some speed.

...and they failed even at that. I've never driven a "comfortable" Jeep (at least not that style).

I had a state-issued law enforcement package 1999 4-liter Cherokee for a year. LOVED it.

An old GF's dad let me wrench on (and drive) his '46 CJ-2 (with a 3.8 GN engine running 12psi) and some crazy dual gearbox or some such thing... Wild.

ah you mean dual transfer cases? and nice i'd love to wrench on an old flattie but i have a hell of a time finding them in decent enough shape to even bother with. The 4 liter was a great motor.I had planned to build a 4.7 stroker for my jeep but i got a 350 for cheap and a 383 stroker kit and a 8-71 blower fell into my lap for way cheap from a buddy who ended up going to 454 with a 10-71

Minus the 1000 miles and 150mph, yes.

Agreed. My uncle Ray bought one when it first came out. It is his little plaything. He has already rolled it, too.

Granted, he is a rich bastard (owns a chain of skate shops called "Industrial") and also owns a plane, a helicopter, a skate park, etc.

The last few days I've been driving around in a 2010 Wrangler Unlimited Sport and a 2006 Wrangler X. I love them both, but the older one with the 4.0 I6 is a little more fun to goof off in. Pretty impressive cargo space and ride comfort in the JK, but the TJ feels more authentic.

Autoblog reviewer certainly didn't "get it."

I'm sure the woman got hosed on her $48k, the dealer probably did the lift and wheels and tripled their expense.

I think Wranglers with square lights and no 4.0L aren't real Jeeps.

uh i disagree, the cj was one of the original wranglers and didn't come with a 4.0 they came with the 4.2 which happens to be what came in the yj's for a few years. And the square headlights just make it easier to stand out in a crowd of tj's/jk's with 6 inch lifts and 37's who go crawling to the mall and think their badass.so leave the 4x4 talk to the people who know what their talking about jackass.i've built 5 rigs pretty much from the ground up that are specifically designed for driving 75 to the trail, beating the absolute s*** out of it,and then driving home without problems and that's exactly what the owners do and have no problems.

That's the conclusion Bex and I came to... Probably the one sitting in the center of the showroom to draw attention, and she paid a monster markup.

I'd love to have an old CJ Scrambler...

I'd carry extra denim vests in it for passengers.
