07 G35X slow 1-2 shift in manual mode

I've noticed that when shifting in manual mode that the 1-2 shift is 'lazy' the higher the RPM's are. Even about 4,000 RPM's it shifts slowly - not as much that it 'reacts' slowly (it starts to shift pretty quickly after I move the shift lever), but a very slushy and slow shift into 2nd gear. In auto (DS or D) the shift is quite quick a firm. I would think the manual mode would be the quickest and firmest shift - more of a 'sport' mode. If I almost redline it in 1st (in manual mode) then there's a real hesitation as it lazily shifts into 2nd. Shifting into 3rd (and higher gears) is quite quick a firm, though.

I was going to post a video, if that would help explain it (let me know if it would help, and if it would where I can post the video and link into it here.)

I was going to mention this to the deal when I take it in for the first oil change, but thought I post up here to see what everybody here thinks, and particularly what others with 07 G35X's experience is.

One last thing - there only seems to be 100-200 RPM difference between 4th and 5th gear - that seems really odd to me? If I watch the tach as I shift from 4th to 5th, it only drops 100-200 RPM - now this isn't going very fast, so I'd expect a bigger difference at higher speed, but still it seems like pretty close gearing to me. I would expect close ratios in the lower gears and wider ratios in higher gears for a better performance/fuel economy mix.

I never had a problem with mine. To be honest 4th and 5th gears depends when you shift. You can shift at 120 would be different than if you shift at 80. You probably feel that you don't need you 5th gear because of the rpm diferent only 100 or 200. I believe it only shifts at 80 or 90 to the fifth in D mode. Try to go up to 120 in 4th gear and switch you'll feel the different. when you just cruising you don't realy need the 5 th gear.

i think i agree with you. when manual shifting 1st and 2nd need to be hit right at redline because going past that will make the car bog down alsmost as if you pressed on the breaks for a sec. but 3rd and 4th can shift above that. I dont know the deal eighter but thats what it is. and shifting to 5th never really got there usually take 4th up to 120-130 then shift and havent paid attention to the rpms that much but i do think it goes down a lot more then just what you said. welll you can always do up a vid like you said. photobucket.com is where i upload all of mine.

yes i have noticed this also... when your on the boil in drive it shifts right at redline, in all gears,, ( if your foot is to the floor) but seems like in manual, you have to shift early,, and it seems slow.....

You are right with the red line if you hit the red line and switch it is slower. Anything below you are o.k. Got to be something with safety too much power that time to the gears.Couple of weeks ago I timed myself. I could not beat the computer 0-100, 0-60. I couldn't shift as fast as the computer does. Best I've got was .2 second behind. I was out there for 2 hours playing. I told my wife can't beat the computer. She had an evil smile on her face for seconds and she was laughing on me.

That's it I am divorcing Ha Ha Ha not yet I let her suffer with me.

ok and another thing that i think we talked about before. but i dont remember w.e i was just out cruising and it cuts off at 130mph now for some reason. WTF. so i went from a stop in drive stops at 130 with vdc on and off. the in ds mode vdc on off stops at 130 and shifting same thing. WTF. whats the problem now?

5.6 with ds and VDC off. 5.8 manual shifting same VDC off. My friend was timing me. I tried to time myself and speed at the same time. I couldn't do it. That is average of couple of runs. Have you timed yourself? I also tried for couple of fills to put acetone in.

o no i havent. my friend has the g tech meter so i might rry i out soon. but i meant that top/past 130mph. i mean i think i was able to go more then that before. its just that i havent been on the highway in a while and when i got back on today its like it stops. my friend that traded his 07 S at for a 335i said the same thing that the Top SPeed on his was 130mph also. so now im jsut not sure.

My top speed is 150+.around 155-158 hard to tell when you speeding like that you try to keep your eyes on the road. I hit that 3 times.

Maybe your governor set wrong. Have you ever passed 130 before? If yes than definitely they did something at the dealership.weird.

i hit 140 be4 i backed off it i was coming up on some cars fast so still didnt get to hit that top speed of 157or8 whatever it is

Cars coming too fast @ 150+. We have a back road no sideroards for about 6 miles. It is wicked. 1 car @ one of the intersection 1 @ the other.

ya i think they mite of did something i wouldnt imagine why though. i think i just going to do the computer reset. with the power on off pressing gas pedal several times etc. see if that works.

well heres the vid of 2 runs that i did. in DS mode vdc off where it cuts off at 130 mph. and same thing in D or Manual. i tried doing the ecu reset from http://www.technosquareinc.com/350reset.htm but didnt work.any answers.

Man that's weird.Take it to the dealer and ask. As you said you hit higher speed before. Maybe they did some retard thing.Haver you tried to disconect the battery?

Suby,, Mine only goes 130 also,,, have done it many times,, and it won't go faster with out some major computer work,, I am also skeptical of some Other X cars going more than 130.... but they say they do......

ya but the thing is that it went faster before like right when i got it i was able to hit at 140 mph now it stops after 2000miles at 130mph. i reset the computer by disconnecting the battery for 12 hours, and still nothing same thing. WTF my firend S did the same thing. im sure there is soemthing to "repair it" must look into this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

haha insane is a good choice of words. esp for the crackheads that work at the service dept where i called. one dealership told me that they are governed at 130mph, and when i told him that people have goten it past the 130 mark hes like how? well i dont know i dont sell and work and have information about everyhting about these cars thats why i am calling for the info. and the other one told me that there is no written documentation available from infininti but he knew of people going past 150 and should be def around 160 but he wouldnt reccomend it bla bla. so ya WTF

there has to be someone outhere that can have an answer for this

Well,, If mine would have gone over 130,, I am sure it would still... but mine has NEVER gone that fast... Also, the X cars only have V-rated tires the 6spd. and S cars should have W rated tires (168) i think... V rated is up to 149?? So either way we have the tire to go faster but MOST of the X cars will top out at 130... :-(

I try to get out tomorrow or a day after and snap a picture at 155-160. you can show the F...ers. You should tell that idiot stick to try to fix it instead of giving you BS. What if you want to take it to the track and let her go. That is not his problem. His problem is to fix if something wrong.

i went out a bit. There is a picture for you it is at 140. I could not go faster there was a load of deers on the road. I had to slow down or hit them i picked the slowing down option. Sorry for the ****ty picture and it is metric so the inside one is in mile.
