hello all, I am a new member on the site, I have an 07 G35X SEDAN with no navi, and I am looking to replace all the OEM speakers and add a sub, with a 5 channel amp to run it all, but keep the OEM headunit in place. Will a free-air sub-woofer work in my car using the rear deck cut out? I measured the cut and it is 10inches. Will the base/sound suck? Or will I need to add a box in the truck, I really don't want to do that, but I would love to hear some recommendations on this. And will I need a LOC (line output converter) so that the original car headunit can work with the aftermarket speakers, sub, amp? is a line output converter even necessary if an amp has speaker level inputs?
Thanks everyone for any thoughts and help.
Cheers..

BTW here is what I was recommended by Crutchfield: http://www.crutchfield.com/s_161LC6IG/A ... ml?tp=6870

Hey there Welcome to the group.

The product you linked there has fairly poor reviews you might want to think of something like a clean sweep would be more along the lines of what would work with the least amount of addons. That device you listed will require some fairly extensive manual tuning and most likely a fairly large investment. If you get a full processor unit you can take the RCA outputs and run them directly to the amp.

Once upon a time I installed an Alpine Imprint through a factory amp with an external sealed 750W 10". With only some slight gain loss (could not be adjusted with the factory amp) the sound change was impressive. The project was left uncompleted and I have not heard from the owner in some time.
