So, after a 2nd trip to the dealer with SES light they found the problem and it's all fixed. Notes on the invoice are:
Parts:L & R VTC cover & pulleyL & R Solenoid gasket
Notes:"Retarding clutches had high internal ohm readings (14.2R & 13.2L) were deemed to be faulty. Tore engine down to gain access and install new parts"
So, first thing I noticed when started is that the exhaust did not sound weird and hollow anymore. Driving it now is like night and day and it has far more power than it had with the SES. Not sure how it ranks against the G37 yet as I was dealing with rush hour traffic all the way home and have only driven the coupe twice in the last week and a half.
